As Calvin would say, "I liiiiike that young man!" Caron Butler has all the tools to be great in the NBA.
Haven't really seen UCONN play too much, but I'm definitely going to watch today's game closely. Looking at the stats Butler's put up, he looks like he might be a pretty good fit for the Rockets and he has a chance of being available even if they draft 6th or 7th. I'm not so sure they can get a small forward through free agency...maybe through a trade. But I don't think the Rockets should take a much less-talented center just because they are hoping they are going to get an SF later on. Personally, I think the Rockets have a more pressing need for an SF than a center anyway.
After seeing Caron Butler today, I would not be upset if the Rockets were to get him on draft night. He can shoot, can put the ball on the floor, boxes out good, goes up hard for rebounds. I wouldn't object to the Rockets picking him with the sixth or seventh pick. I haven't seen Qyntel Woods play, but after watching Wilcox I think I would take him over just about anyone else I've seen. The guy is already just physically dominant over the players he's up against in college. The Terps just don't use him enough. I think he could easily become the NBA's next closet thing to Ben Wallace, except with more of an offensive game and better free-throw shooting. Plus, he runs the floor great, which would help the Rockets become more of a fast-break team. And he looks like he could play center. Of course noone knows if he's coming out this year for sure.
He'll have the Glen Rice syndrome someone posted when the trade was made. Bigger forwards will be able to post him up and quicker forwards will be able to drive on him. Whoever posted that earlier, that was hilarious.
Why do you say he is soft? He rebounds fairly well and has some nice post moves. I will say that he has a tendency to stand and watch. Not a warrior, but not a wuss. He looks like he may be a bit humble
He's too passive for my taste. Doesn't have the necessary mean streak IMO to become a star. Skill-wise, he has potential to be a star.
After seeing him today in the game. I won't be mad if the Rox draft him. He is a warrior, and not afraid to get in there and bang. He got great touch and nice form on his shot. If Wilcox don't come out, I say get him.
Because right now we are starting Walt Williams at Small Forward. Do you need any more reason than that?
Butler's play was quite impressive Sunday. However, he and KT look like clones (height, weight, strength, game, etc). Given a choice, I'd think I'd stick with KT at SF even though Butler seems to have a better 3-point shot. However, KT has a strong work ethic and I'll wager hypothetic coinage that he will bring a 3-pt shot to camp next season. That said, whoever drafts Butler will be well pleased.
Where is this idea that Butler, because he weighs 230 lbs, is slow/not quick? He's as explosive as a SF as there is in college. He's basically Ron Artest with some offensive game.
KT is quick, but not fast. IMO, KT is still best suited to be a PF, at least defensively. Butler is quick and fast, something that is vital for a SF.
