Will Jeff Posey be the bigtime player he was in the preseason opener? a. Outlook Good b. Don't Count On It c. Ask Again Later Uh.. Guess that's about it. I'd appreciate people's opinions. Thanks.
1) Allen will be the starter just because of his experience, and I think he'll pick up the pace with time. 2) It looks more likely that they'll open up the run with the pass rather than the other way around. Then again, they ran a very basic scheme last night and didn't show much of the playbook. 3) Young will, but not Boselli. 4) Jabar Gaffney will end up being an excellent receiver. He will learn a lot during the preseason and will develop into a go to guy during the season. 5) Corey Bradford will be the other starter, with Lewis coming in for 3 receiver sets. 6) I think Billy Miller will continue a high level of play. The only question is whether he can block. 7) Posey will be a good player, but I think Keith Mitchell will end up with the majority of the reps. Mitchell came in so late that he is still getting acclimated.
1. Allen will start for the majority of the season. I feel that the only way Wells will start is if Allen gets hurt. This is not to say that Allen is better than Wells. I just think that since Allen is the veteran, they will stick with him. 2. Maybe if our offensive line gets healthy and gels, then we can establish a running game. As it is now, dont count on it. 2 rookie starters and a player who hasnt played the center position is not a good thing. They will need time to develop together. 3. Boselli will miss more games than he starts. Young will be there from the start of the season. 4. The #1 receiver is up for grabs. Im not sure if we really have a go to guy, but rather 3 players that Carr will go to. I think that Gaffney is Carr's favorite target. It seemed to me that Carr would consistently look for Gaffney. 5. Its too tough to say who the other starter will be. Either way, I think they will all have substantial playing time. If I had to guess right now, I would go with Gaffney and Bradford. 6. Billy Miller will be solid in the regular season. The guy can catch, plain and simple. I feel that he will be a huge asset to our team. 7. I think that Posey will continue to perform at a high level. He has been working hard and his improvement has shown in practice. There is going to be a tough battle between Mitchell and Posey for the ROLB position. It will go down to the wire. But, again, they will both see plenty of time on the field.
1. James Allen. Jenkins can probably sneak in some good minutes if Allen doesn't perform. I believe that big running backs still need a good amount of explosiveness in order to be successful in the league. Frankly, I haven't seen enough of Wells to be convinced of that. My hunch is that he probably won't be too successful in the NFL. 2. Don't count on a solid running game. First of all, the offensive line have to gel before any kind of running game can get started. With the injuries to Boselli and Young, the Texans just put themselves in a bad position in developing that running game. Also, I am not completely sold on any of the tailbacks on the roster. The fullbacks on the roster are not proven either in either blocking or running. 3. Ask again later on the health of Young and Boselli. Especially on a team expected to go nowhere, the team will take a conservative approach in dealing with their injuries. I'll be pretty happy if Boselli can play effectively by mid-season. I also hope that Young's groin problems won't drag on all year. 4. Bradford has the best chance at being the goto guy. I really believe that experience pays off when you're a wide receiver. Rarely do you see a wide receiver make it big in their rookie seasons anymore (Moss, Chambers, and a few others being the exception). Gaffney will be a fine player, but it'll probably take him time. 5. Gaffney will be the other starter. I'm not completely sold on Lewis' abilities as a wide receiver yet. 6. Don't count on Miller being a good player in the NFL yet. While his last two performances have been encouraging, he hasn't done enough to be a sure-fire guy yet. It'll be great if he can develop into a Frank Wychek type weapon, but let's give Miller a couple more games. 7. I am at the impression that Mitchell is the better talent, and I hope he wins the starting job. However, if Posey plays well, that'll give the Texans some excellent depth.
