I made a topic about this game a while back, but I can't find it. I know I'm late to the game but I've finally played this game and I loved it!!! If "The Dark Knight" had an equivalent in the gaming industry, it's this game. It's freaking epic. Never been wowed by a game so much. I'm just sad though that I might not get to play XIII maybe after 3-4 years its release. Because I'm poor like that. If I had to rank the Final Fantasies it'll go like this: XII X IX VIII VII VI Every little detail in this game, just wow. How can anyone make a world like Ivalice? So much imagination, so much work, I would believe. Geez. Game of the decade for me. Yeah yeah I know I'm late but I find it impossible for any other game / RPG on the PS2 to be better than this one. SOrry. I know there are haters of this game, like because of the story? I thought it was magnificent and the script was great. The battle system was awesome, just everything... everything. Feel free to argue with me about this game! I don't know how anyone could nitpick about this masterpiece...
Just tried to play this game yeseterday. I couldn't get throug it, just something about the characters, is it just me or is the pace of this game slower than other FF?
It appears graphics (rather than gameplay, storyline, music) mean a lot to, based on you liking each Final Fantasy more and more as they're being made.
So around 2020? Good luck waiting. (OK, we're getting a demo this week, so I should probably stop with the release jokes). Been a while since I played it, but I think it is. I seemed to love the game the more I played it (except for maybe the last hour or so in the main storyline). Anyway, as I've said in the past, I really enjoyed the game as well. One interesting point that I saw mentioned was how great the game (or at least parts of it) came out despite the development issues behind the game. Makes you wonder how things could have turned out... On a related note, I finally checked out FF7: Dirge of Cerberus this weekend. Of course, I didn't play it...no way I'd do that. Just watched some walkthrough vids (glad I didn't try to play it). At least the CGI was pretty. Still need to get around to playing Crisis Core at some point.
I don't have a PSP or a PS2, so I have not played either game, but because of my obsession of FF7, I went to Youtube and found every cutscene for both games. I had no desire to play the game, but I was interested in the plot, along with the significant events and how it affected the FF7 world. Great stuff all around. I loved the plot of those two games to the point that Cloud is probably now just my 3rd favorite character in FF7 behind Vincent and Zack. You can download all the cutscenes and FMVs at www.bluelaguna.net (which is where the youtube guys got their vids from). I'll be surprised if you don't shed a tear after watching the ending FMV of Crisis Core. CC pretty much ironed out most of the confusion I had of the original FF7 storyline, while DOC is mostly separate (takes place after Advent Children), but goes deeply into Vincent's background as a Turk and what happened to him. The bonus ending of DOC is what suggests yet another game will be added to this compilation.
Yeah, I was debating whether I should try to play CC (since it actually seems good, unlike DoC), or watch the cutscenes online (since I might be more interested in the plot than the gameplay). I do have some higher expectations for CC than DoC, so hopefully that turns out well. edit: Hmm...bet it is more likely that Crisis Core: FF7 goes on the PSN than FF7.
Do any of you guys play FFXI? I like that one although i must say if your a visual gamer than its probably not for you, the game came out in 2000 or 2001 i believe. Also I recently played FF Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time! I give it a 9.5 out of 10 online play is cool, my only complaint would be lack of class development.
Here's a question for you: Other than the original games (and, yes, after 7 & 10, I chose to go back and play all of the FF in order, including the two that were released in Japan, but not originally here) are the other ones they put out worth playing? As in Chronicles, Crisis core, anthology, etc.?
Chronicles and Anthology are basically re-releases of SNES FF games (and Chrono Trigger). If you end up playing FF4, FF5, FF6, and Chrono Trigger separately, there's probably not much point in playing those. Remakes for FF1 through FF4 have been released on handhelds, with varying quality. I haven't checked them out, but I would imagine that they'd be better (particularly the FF3 and FF4 remakes on the DS). I think FF6 was ported to the GBA with some extras, although I can't remember what. Haven't played Crisis Core yet, so I can't really speak on its quality. I'm expecting it to be pretty good though, and if you really like FF7, you might want to play CC to get the full story. Outside of the main releases, most FF games aren't really worth playing IMO. The one exception is Final Fantasy Tactics, which, while radically different from pretty much all FF games, is a lot of fun. Besides the original Tactics on the PS1 (which was ported the PSP with extras), there are some other games in the series on handhelds, but I've heard mixed things about them. If you weren't going to include it, I might suggest Final Fantasy X-2. If you can more or less ignore the story, it does have a really nice gameplay system...and maybe some parts of the story are OK (not quite as bad as Charlie's Angels in Spira...but pretty close). It is pretty low on my list of favorite FF games, but generally speaking, even a bad FF game is pretty decent IMO. I haven't really been interested in checking out the other FF spinoffs. If you play all of the main games + Crisis Core + Tactics + X-2, then I'd probably suggest moving onto other Square-Enix games (or other great JRPGs), such as Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Parasite Eve, Xenogears, etc., instead of checking out something like Final Fantasy Mystic Quest. Although I loved it back when I was a kid, it isn't worth playing over those other games.
That's what I wanted to know. I'm currently on IX, now, so after that, I'll go to Crisis Core, then Tactics, and then X-2 before going to XI. Thanks!
I may one day give FF12 another look, but I really just couldn't get into it. I made it about 6-7 hours in.
You know I didn't even notice I listed it in that order. But in no way did I base my judgment on graphics. I had a blast playing this game and I ranked in order of enjoyment. It just happens to be in that order. The gameplay of XII triumphs the previous FF's. Although the music is better on some other ones. The story is debatable, I really enjoyed the theme of XII.
Yeah I played FFXI a few years ago. Its super addictive. But once you get to a high level, you cant do anything unless you have atleast 4 hours minimum of playing time. And I havent had that kinda time in forever.
The biggest disappointment for me about FFXII was the music. Nothing really great IMO. Practically every FF game I played had at least one great song, and FF6, FF7, and FFX had great soundtracks IMO. I think the few songs we've heard from FF13 and FFvs13 are already better than anything from XII. I will say the localization was great in FFXII though, particularly the voice acting. It was a great step up from FFX...which definitely had some laughable voice acting. (I need to learn to stick with digits or Roman numerals when talking about FF games).
Haven't played FF10 or 12 yet, but I've got to say, I've never seen anyone with a list of their favorite FF's that resembles yours. I also agree with RC Cola's analysis. None of the FF spinoffs are really worthwhile besides FF Tactics. And like he said, if you have made your way through all the good FF games, you should look into some other good Square games like the Chrono Trigger series, Parasite Eve series, Xenogears, or Vagrant Story. Personally, I'm a big supporter of Xenogears and Chrono Trigger - both are very unique RPG experiences. (Parasite Eve and Vagrant Story aren't really RPGs, but good games nonetheless.)
XII is pretty good, but I've yet to finish it. There's nothing wrong with it, but I feel like if it were better I might have finished it a long time ago. As for your list, I don't know about the order. X is pretty good, but to put VII so low.....what? Even after VIII? To each their own I suppose. Concerning the spinoffs, Crisis Core was pretty good.
