... i graduate on saturday i've had a hell of a time, best years of my life no doubt..... but i'm on to bigger and better things - hopefully in Austin . the job situation seems pretty good right now with a couple of solid positions available in both Austin and H-Town, but i just don't think i'm ready to give up on the austin social scene quite yet. i'm just gonna assume it'll still be alright to skip work and go out to the river to get sh!tcanned with a bunch of buddies. this should be a fun weekend....
Congrats! I was a rebel from the day I left school, grew my hair long and broke all the rules I'd sit and listen to my records all day, with big ambitions of where I could play My parents taught me what life was about, so I grew up the type they warned me about They said my friends were just an unruly mob, and I should get a haircut and get a real job Get a haircut and get a real job, clean your act up and don't be a slob Get it together like your big brother bob, why don't you get a haircut and get a real job I even tried that 9 to 5 scene, I told myself that it was all a bad dream I found a band and some good songs to play, and now I party all night, I sleep all day I met this chick she was my No. 1 fan, she took me home to meet her mommy and dad They took one look at me and said, "Oh my god", get a haircut and get a real job Get a real job, why don't you get a real job Get a real job, why don't you get a real job I hit the big time with my rock 'n' roll band, the future's brighter now than I'd ever planned I'm ten times richer than my big brother bob, and he, he's got a haircut he's got a real job Why don't you get a haircut and get a real job
Not a day goes by where I don't regret making my college experience last one more year than the four it took me. Have a beer at The Tap Room for me. Congrats!
CONGRATS SWTsig I disagree with some in this thread.. I love the real world 10 fold more than college.. A stable job and solid income is allot better than paying a outrageous tuition and working hard for a ****ty income, give me the real world over college any day..
Congrats SWTsig, so what did you major in? Oh, and don't let people dismay you, the real world is a lot more fun than school, at least you can now buy the things you have always wanted in college but couldn't afford, and finally see the fruition of all that hard, thankless work you did in college.
Congrats. I've got one more year before I graduate . . . . . . . . . after 8 years. But the first 3 don't count because I sat out a year and the other 3 semesters I didn't do squat.
You must have forgotten what college is like then. I love my job and like being able to pay for things..but I don't know what could beat afternoon naps, sand volleyball and basketball afterclass, and going out pretty much every night of the week and not worring about anything but showing up to class the next morning. Tuition?..isn't that what student loans are for? Seriously, the real world isn't as much fun...but it pays a lot better!
Of course thats assuming he can even find a job after getting out of college. I've known quite a few unemployed recent graduates. (cue Debbie Downer pic.)
marketing, but that's definitely not the field i'll be working in. i'm ready to leave the classromm behind and start making some dough, but i realize there won't be any other time in my life quite like college . very bittersweet, so to say. i have an interview at an austin law firm tomorrow, and i'll be working half a day at Merrill Lynch next week in Houston. My desire to live in austin far outweighs my desire to make more money.... at least right now. this is where i wanna be, and it'll be hard to turn down a decent job here.... but i do realize that the ML job is a terrific opportunity. i should have my decision made sometime next week. my fraternity brother always said, "graduating in 4 years is like leaving a party at 10 o'clock." i'd like to think i stayed til 2:30, but ya better believe that i didn't want to leave til the sun came up ! i'll order a full pint of 9% Maredsuos for you! that stuff is delicious.
Perhaps you havn't heard of the sales aspect of marketing. Expense accounts and 6 figures and not that uncommon. Not working in an office and working 35 hours weeks arn't that bad either. The job market in Houston is a lot better than Austin's, but f*** it, if you wanna hang out and party in Austin then go for it. You've got your whole life to work. I kinda regret graduating in 4.5 years and then instantly going to work..I wish I would have done some traveling or something, but then again, I've got the same job that I got out of college and love it, and probably wouldn't have got it if I had taken a break.
the interview at the law firm went really well, and the environment/atmosphere is definitely laidback and friendly, which i liked a whole hell-of-alot. they'll let me know by next week, which is good since i have that 1/2 day at Merrill Lynch on monday.... i'll be able to compare the two, although right now my heart is definitely in Austin.
Could you give me some clues on where these magical 6 figures and expense account jobs are? I've graduated in the last year and haven't found anything remotely close to those figures for entry level college grads - everything is a minimum 5 years+ experience.
