After Much Speculation, Sony Finally Decides to Drop PlayStation Price

    PlayStation 2 price anyway. :p

    Technically not supposed to be in effect until April 5th I believe, and I don't think it will be announced until this week. I'm sort of jumping the gun a bit, but some people online are reporting that ads from several retailers for next week are showing $99 as the new price for the PS2 ("price drop" and "new low price"). Seems more or less confirmed right now, although I was hoping to find some scans (I did see some scans from Europe, but I want some US scans).

    Took them long enough. There has been speculation about a price drop to $99 for a long time. For example:

    Now all the people that have been holding out for a $99 PS2 can finally own one. All 4 of you.

    BTW, there is talk about an "announcement" from Sony this week (supposed to be on Tuesday, March 31st). Some sites are reporting this as related to the PS3, but I think this PS2 price drop is what the announcement is actually about. So don't bother getting hyped up about what the announcement might be.

    Maybe the drop + announcement will relate to the Wii like attachment Sony has been working on for the PS2?

    that would be awesome. But they should've done this during the Wii's launch, that would have been sick.

    Nintendo: The Wii is coming out at $250. Wii would like to play.

    Sony: Hey, you know all of those 100 million + PS2 owners? Why not just pay $100 for a wii-like attachment. Play Tennis, boxing, etc. on PS2!

    If Sony had done that, Wii would have tanked hard and Sony would be rolling in cash, most likely.

    No point in announcing that w/o a conference to show it off. GDC just ended, and E3 isn't far off. It would be kind of stupid to announce that (or anything similar) now.

    i read somewhere sometime ago that the xbox price will but marked down in april, subsequently ps3 in june

    That would mean the 360 would have two price drops in ~7 months IIRC...and it is already at $199 on the low end. Not sure where you read that, but that seems doubtful.
