My initial thinking is that this is not true. There is an unwritten rule in Special Forces that you do not allow yourself to be captured - you fight to the death or commit suicide if all else fails, because you cannot afford to have any information extracted from you via torture. This sounds like a propaganda lie for the islamic masses... But if true, and it is possible, then it sounds like a rescue mission is needed, pronto.
The Taliban hasn't told the truth about anything in months. And this source sounds a little doubtful: someone calls a TV station in Qatar and says "Hey guys, I'm a military spokesperson for Al Qaeda, and I just wanted to let you guys know that we've captured some Americans on a recon mission over here... No, I don't have any proof right now, but I'll send over some pictures for you real soon..." Special Forces don't surrender. They don't get captured. I don't believe one has ever been captured since the command was first set up. I'll believe this when the DoD tells me.
treeman, That's what I'm saying. Special Forces are well, Special Forces. They don't give up. They fight until death. But I figure I'd post the link since it was "news."
I agree, this sounds highly unlikely. If the Taliban had captured the soldier he would be in DEEP, DEEP trouble. He allowed the soldier in there, so the U.S. would come after him. It sounds to me like the U.S. is hot on bin Laden and his group's trail and they're trying to spin propaganda to turn people against each other. Check this out: Oh yeah, that's real credible!
