For centuries, Afghan men have taken boys, roughly 9 to 15 years old, as lovers. Some research suggests that half the Pashtun tribal members in Kandahar and other southern towns are bacha baz, the term for an older man with a boy lover. Literally it means "boy player." So I'm going to assume they're not Taliban or any extreme Islamic group. They seem to be just continuing a different, long lived tradition. I'm not agreeing with them, but I'm not going to sit here and condemn someone's tradition or history that I don't understand. Now if they're being hypocritical and are beheading gays, then I'll call them out. Until then I'll let world's view take care of this. Thanks for your response though.
I've heard about this for years, but it seems like most of the major news sources are staying away from this uh... highly charged subject. I may be wrong on this, but I think SF Chron is about the biggest to do a full story on Afghanistan's little cultural problem.
In America, he'd wish he was dead. But I think I would have a different perception if I was living in Afghanistan.
