well... I don't normally find myself actually asking for advice, but in this case I could really use some advice from the collective wisdom of the board. My 10th anniversary is coming up in a couple of weeks, and we were looking for some suggestions as to where to go for a weekend vacation that is within driving distance from Houston... When we take a weekend vacation...it is normally to spots such as San Antonio, hitting the river near New Braunfels, Corpus..and the casinos in Louisiana.... Basically...I guess what Im asking is.....Where would you go if you wanted to getaway, but didnt want to hit the same old tired touristy spots in an area friom the HillCountry to South/East Texas( I would prefer not having to drive more than 4 hours or so to get there, but if you come up with a good idea that is a little further..Im flexible ) OK guys...Ive seen yall comeup with some damn good ideas before....let me see what ya got. thanks.
reasonable....probably under a grand....she has recently won a couple of jackpots at one of them gamerooms...so Im not hurting too bad for cash.
If you can find the right deal, you can get a carnival 3 day weekend cruise for around $500-$600 a piece. Usually that price includes everything except alcohol and tips. EDIT: Was just looking up some stuff. Norwegian has a 7 day Caribeean cruise departing from houston at the end of August. $429 per person.
A little over 6 hours is Gulfport/Biloxi, MS where there are some nice beaches and lots of entertainment to keep you more than busy on a long weekend. http://www.gulfcoast.org/
great idea C...Im surprised they are so inexpensive..I always thought cruises cost more than that... I just talked to her and it looks like we will take that advice for next year's vacation....that way we can get a full week off to take a cruise... as it is..for this one...we only have a long weekend available in the first week of August... any more ideas guys?...come on...help me out here.
R2K, Yeah, they really aren't as expensive as they were in the past. Cruises aren't for everyone. I personally enjoyed the heck out of mine and have been anxious to go on another one ASAP.
Depends on the cruise. The one I was one, we were mostly at sea. We stopped in Cozumel for 1 day and basically sat on the beach the whole day. There are others that stay in port longer. The whole thing about a cruise is, you can just relax and kill time on the boat or you can keep yourself busy with all the activities on the boat.
Your biggest problem will be the heat. If you don't want to do the beach thing, I'd suggest Jefferson/Caddo Lake: http://www.innsites.com/frameset_in...effersontx.com/oldmulberryinn&refCode=A003921 http://www.dottieshepherd.com/-/DottieShepherd/gallery.asp?cat=1368
New Orleans is only six hours away, and the meals are fabulous! Another idea would be Rockport. Very romantic, secluded area just north of Corpus. You can fish, enjoy the beach, or just relax in a different area. It's fairly boring, but you are married. When I was, it was a nice, cheap escape from the madness that is Houston.
On the ship I was on, it was at capacity, but I didn't think it was crowded. They had 3 pools, and they usually had people in them. Based on my observation though, most people wanted to lay out in the sun, gamble, eat, go to one of the shows .........i mean ....there was so much stuff to do, I don't remember any one place on the boat being crowded, or having to wait in line for something. It seemed the only people who were interested in the pool, were the kids and there weren't alot of those on the boat I was on.
thats funny....Rockport is one of the places that is on the list so far... We went thru there on the way to Corpus two weeks back, and I got to se some of what the area offers...we resolved to go back there... just not sure yet if that is the place for this... Some good suggestions so far guys....keep em coming...
Just be careful not to get raped. They have trouble prosecuting. Have you considered scenic Amarillo?
That short of a time, that amount of money........ Just check in to a upscale Hotel, preferrably with a spa. Lounge at the pool, get a message, order room service, close the drapes, watch soft p*rn, sleep in, order room service. It's too hot for any outside stuff except maybe Schlitterbaun or The Guadelupe. I did see some real cheap fares to Mexico City on Avianca advertized this week; that could make an exotic weekend.
Buddy just went on a cruise - got very sick. This is the second time I've seen that happen... Austin is a fun option IMO. If you're in to outdoor stuff, gettting a lodge out on the Frio river (about 5 hour drive) and tubing the river is quite fun too...
I went to this little town called Nagadoshes or something like that about four years ago, its really calm and peacefull. if you're looking for a calm getaway that's cheap and not far away.
