I need the wisdom of the CF Board.

Proposed office is in Mississaugua, ON. Can anyone let me know which parts of the Greater Toronto Area are nice to live in? I am looking to get a 3-4 bedroom house. Not sure how long a realistic commmute is in Toronto? I have found a mls website showing listings, but it is impossible to tell/know which area is good/bad/etc. Also thrown off by the descriptions... is it good to be close to the rail station?

I have a feeling it will be similar to Houston with regards to location will cost you quite a bit more (ie: live in a shack inside the loop will cost the same as a bigger place further out).

Any other words of wisdom regarding Toronto is welcome. Thanks for the help.

I'm going to be working in Toronto as well, starting next month until about October (just Monday - Friday, though).

I've been once before and Mississauga is a huge upper/middle class suburb, it was very diverse (seemed like everyone was South Asian).

As for your original question, I don't have a clue.

    Hmm...

Well, I can't contribute much to where to live in Toronto and stuff...

But some general advice from a Canadian...

1- You're going to be hated by every non-Torontonian out there, especially in Quebec. See, this sounds like a joke, but um...it's actually true. Never mention that you live in Toronto if you venture outside its' friendly borders, it makes for some awkward moments :p

2-Be prepared to be immersed in hockey culture, unless you get a speciality package on your TV and never go out; 50%+ of the local sports channel, TSN, is all about hockey. And once the hockey season comes out in full swing, you're going to hear about it and um...see about it. Prepare to know at least a little bit for conversational purposes (Maple Leafs-never win Stanley Cup (been about 41 years)-sucking terribly at the moment-did just pick up Luke Schenn in the NHL Draft, "potential franchise defenseman" so maybe there is hope-Captain Mats Sundin might be defecting to Montreal...whee!-hate the Canadians and the Senators)

3-Drive to Montreal for Schwartz's smoked meat and the bagels.

4-Medicare is free but it sucks. Expect LONG waiting periods if you're ever going to attempt anything medically related on the gouvernment's tab (ex: MRI/surgery etc.).

5-It's aboot time you came to Canada, eh?

How much do domestic cross-country flights cost in Canada (i.e. Toronto to Vancouver)? I'm assuming it's significantly cheaper from Chicago to Vancouver.

    Uh...

    One-way or round-trip?

I'm not exactly sure either way XD...but from what I remember, flights from major American cities to anywhere are cheaper then from Toronto.

There is a show running on TV called Property Virgins. It's based in Toronto and every show they visit 3-4 houses usually in different neighborhoods. It probably the most realistic show I've seen on realestate I've seen regarding the home buying process.

If I were to move to Toronto, I'd think this show would be very interesting.
