All right, so I go to Baylor (Sic 'em Bears) which means except for a few spots it's a pretty mild town in Waco. I'm turning 21 in a few weeks, (19th) so I thought I'd go ahead and make a trip up to Austin with some friends and get legally drunk and have some fun. Any recommendations on some really good places to go? We'll probably stick on 6th street for the night/weekend. Bars, nightclubs, places where there's good live music, stuff like that...not into the hip hop though. So I'm asking you guys for some advice, to see which places I should check out...and are most of these places 21+ because a couple of my friends are still 20.

If anyone can provide a link to a resource site that has a list of places/events that are going on around that time, that'd be great. Thanks.

20+ is gonna' be tough. Everywhere.

21+ check out Lovejoy's for just beer and pool. Go to the G&S Lounge and see how long it takes the beer nazi to kick you out - always good fun...

if you are a smoker go to the Horseshoe lounge off of Lamar as they will cut up a tall boy for you for an ashtray.

Live music I would say check out the Saxon - just down from the horseshoe - or just fly through sixth and see what's going on.

Twenty something is tough. Check out City Search and see if they have a listing for 'All Ages' or '18 and up clubs'.

You can always go down sixth street...drop them off at whatever cheesy dance club is down there and head to the shot bars.

OR...have them wait outside while you go in for a few dr. pepper's a flamin'

Depending on what kind of live music you like, depends on where you should go.

Right now, the area with the most bands....notice that the work 'quality' is not in that sentence is Red river between 8th and 6th.

Is Paradox still there in ATX? That is a place 18 and up can get into. Make sure you go to the library. It is my all time favorite bar in Austin. It has stood the test of time and is still around after all these years.

Basically, you're going to have to go to the bars, leave your friends outside for a sec and pop into bars to get your free shots.

For 18+, you're stuck with Paradox and Spiro's, which are pretty dirty.

For yourself: (in no particular order) all on the main part of 6th street
    1) The Aquarium: really busy, but get your birthday t-shirt and shot.
    2) The Library: a solid place
    3) Cheers: quick Flaming Dr. Pepper and/or Blue Wave
    4) Shakespeare's
    5) Logan's
    6) Touche

Parking around the area in a garage for $5, or park in UT's west campus to find the E-Bus.

i dont much care for east 6th anymore, but those are the best places imo. unless your younger friends have a solid fake, they aint getting in to those places though.... nor most places.

For heavens sake, take a taxi once you start drinking. If you think you can't afford it, sell your car. I'm serious. You don't want to be driving around Austin when you've been drinking. You'll end up in jail, and/or hurt somebody.

Having said that, has a gas and congratulations!!

(you might like Sugar's and the Yellow Rose... great dancers ...so I've heard. ;) )

Have a friend take a digital camera so they can record every shot you take that night. We did this with my sister on her 21st, and counting the shots the next day as we were all hung over was pretty hilarious.

Who knew a 5'3" female could put away 20 shots in 4 hours.
