I am trying to sell my house and need to paint 2 rooms.

I did get a bid on a 12x12 room for $275. Is that a fair price?

If I paint it myself, I'm going to do 2 rooms. The rest have high ceilings.

Does anyone have advice they'd like to share? Any good websites on taking something like this on yourself? Something to help me get all the needed materials?

I painted my entire basement including the ceiling not long ago all by myself. Not a big deal if you have time and patience, the cost is fairly minimum.

$275 for a 12x12 room is about right, but I guess you could find a cheaper one.

Since you've already had a layer of old paint, you don't need to do primer. Make sure the new color matches or "overwhelms" the old one.

If the color of your paint is generally on the light side, your job should be fairly easy. I had hard time to pain a section of my basement with the dark red wine-ish paint.

Start with taping edges/corners, trims, and base boards using blue tapes of generous width. Make sure your wall is dust free. Do the "cutting" (this is a painter's jargon) first, meaning to paint along the edge/corner. It's a good idea to finish painting in W patterns in a roughly 3x3 area, then move to the next 3x3. Do not let roller dry. If you hear too much "searing" noise -- indicating the fiber from the roller start to stick to the wall -- you need to stop and wet the roller with the paint again.

If you live in my area, I can offer my service at 20% off your lowest bidding price, courtesy of CF.net. :)

Seriously, painting is fun. You can and should do it yourself.

pick the colour you want & buy the one 2 shades grayer. When applied it will look closer to what you envisioned.

Also, keep in mind this true story: an NFL player & his wife were planning to repint the interior of their house themselves. Thir bright idea was to use extrior paint inside.... in their minds it would "last longer". They were hospitalised later that day.

If you're serious, I might take you up on your offer. It sounds as though you have done your homework. Time is my biggest problem. I have a ton of stuff I need to move out of my house by August 10th and would need it done, before then. I'm not sure if I'll have the time to do it myself.

I'm in NW Houston. 3 miles east of HP off Louetta, in Spring.

I'll update the page when I get the next bid.

Well, I live in a Midwestern state. I'd like to do some more painting after finishing mine. It's just too far away, sorry buddy. :(
