Ok, try to control yourselves and keep the moronic responses to a manageable level fellas. 19-year-old daughter, miserable grades in high school, not a 'good student', and needs a job but can't seem to find one, blah blah blah. I so want to kick this creature out of my house, but I just can't yet, not until she can at least stand on her own two feet. So I am wondering if any of you have any experience with any of these 'home-based-businesses', like having a reseller's store on Ebay or Amazon? I know the vast majority of these outrageous claims of these people getting rich are all scams, but I am trying to think of at least something she can do to earn a little $ while she continues to look for a 'real' job. So is there anything out there that actually works, that a typical slug teenager could manage to actually do? (and yes I know I am asking for idiot responses with the thread title, but frankly I don't care. And no, no pictures, believe me your imagination is better) Thanks
does she just have a lack of desire to do anything or was she just not blessed in the brains department?
Ouch.... Just have her go out and apply at retailers. They are hiring like crazy this time of year. Seasonal help, and usually keep a number of those employees if they do a good job.
I would say more of a lack of desire, she is actually quite bright and computer-savvy. With each application she puts in and then gets no response, she becomes more and more convinced that she 'just can't' find a job. Sigh.
I think that she will be better off just getting a job at a grocery store or a fast food place. Also, it takes a lot of self control and time management skills to become successful in ANY work from home jobs. By the description of your daughter, it seems like she may be lacking the necessary traits to be a successful "home based business owner". No trying to be ****ty about it, but I know first hand that having a home business is A LOT of work.
Wow - tell her to get a job, and start paying rent...but honestly, she should try Junior college..... And calling her a "Slug" teenager is kinda strange for your own daughter. At least to me. DD
All right, no pictures of her here, but I will tell you that her aunt used to be one of the Rockets Power Dancers. And when she caught herself a young executive to marry, she quit the Power Dancer gig and is now Suzy Housewife. Goof for her, but it didn't exactly blaze a trail my daughter could follow..
From the sounds of it, she's bright but hasn't found her niche. Has she shown any interest in anything in particular?
My suggestion is for her to become a Dental Hygenist. I think the school is 1 year and there are lots of good paying jobs.
I don't see where there is a problem with it at all. If his kid is a lazy ass that does nothing, why shouldn't he call her out on it? I commend him for actually seeing that there is a problem and wanting to do something about it. Too many parents have blinders on when it comes to their children. Just like in the thread for Mr. "I have a PS3, 50" TV, and Surround Sound but I don't want to move out so that I can still leach off of my parents while I go to college", she is an adult. An adult needs to act like an adult. Grow the **** up, get a ****ing job, get your own place, and start being responsible.
I know, you're right it seems cold. But I am WAY past being fed up. Maybe I am just venting, but I know that there are a ton of kids her age working all around where we live. I am sick of the excuses and was hoping someone by some miracle might have some info on something I could get her to do at home.
You should have her go to a Navy recruiter and she needs to take the ASVAB. If she does well(which is not hard) it may give her a confidence boost and she may be able to get in as an IT. There are some really good programs in the Navy for the "unmotivated bright kids", in which after they join and taste some success, find the motivation. There is less danger in the Navy, as well.
Nice, I was going to offer to let her move in with me, I could use more little college aged girls running around the house in their bra and panties but frankly your imagination statement has me a little scared; does she at least have hot friends, is the Aunt you referenced going to be coming around a lot? Give me something man. Talk it over with your significant other and see if she is willing to help you in putting your foot down, insisting she get a job, seasonal retail is a good start. After talking to yuor wife and coming up with a plan, talk it over with your daughter and let her know all of her little perks that come with living under your roof are going to cease frm this point forward. This should have one of two reactions, either she will get a job and start living by your rules under your roof or she'll be pissed and motivated enougth to GTFO that she'll have to get a job and start looking for other places to reside. hope this helps and if either of the two cute friends or hot Aunt hanging around criteria are met I still might be willing to offer up that room to her, good luck, lmk.
The only thing she has expressed any interest in, and shown and propensity for, is baking - ie she wants to eventually go to culinary school to become a pasty chef, with the ultimate goal of making things like wedding cakes and such. Now the dental hygenist idea might be worth looking into...
I get it, sounds like a frustrating situation. Sit down with her, and tell her she has a choice. 1. Go to Junior college 2. Get a job and pay rent No other options, tough love. DD
I guess its a lesson learned that things don't always come easy. SO many younger people have a sense of entitlement and think it's all so easy. Now, the hard part is keeping her motivated, obviously. SHe has you to fall back on so she there isnt much incentive for her to try harder. Perhaps a deadline and after that point she owns rent and gets cut off of any funds...i'm not sure. i think its a little refreshing. Sometimes your children can be slugs, little sh!ts, a-holes, jerks, stupid, etc etc. They are not always perfect. More parents should realize this about their children rather then think they are the most perfect thing on the planet
