I am planning on buying an HDTV TV in the near future. I have read a bunch of stuff on CNET, but wanted some other opinions. I'm looking for a 42 inch plasma or lcd. I don't play video games...this would only be to watch television/movies at home. Something simple, but with a good picture, as in better than my current Sony CRT tv. Also, what resolution should I be looking for? Any advice would be very appreciated. Thanks in advance
I guess that I should add that I'm really only looking to spend around $1200 (a 37 inch would be fine as well) Is this a waste when it comes to HDTV? Will I notice a difference? Thanks to those who already replied
http://www.shopdigitalonline.com/productdetail.asp?level=1&catid=12&productid=1593&crtag=cr There aren't many 1080p LCD TVs available for around 1200 bucks, but here's a 37" Sharp LCD TV I was able to find.
its not giving in to me. its about the advancement of mankind. what kind of tvs do you think the aliens have? i dont think its zeniths!
do you consider DLPs? they are slimmer rear projections and don't weight much. Tigerdirect and onecall are good places on the web to buy stuff. crutchfield is good too. sony, samsung, sharp, panasonic, toshiba, and mitsubshi are the brands you should stick with.
LCD is lighter, and uses less power but my Plasma has a better pic than my LCD. If you want a 42 and want it on the cheap consider a DLP. 1080P will further future proof your TV but with current cable and Sat providers it provides little over a 720P/1080i LCD.
^I agree with Casey. The benefits to 1080p is if you have a HDDVD/Blu Ray or play PS3/computer games on it. An Xbox360 will probably have most of its games on 720p. And if you do get a 1080p set, make sure it upconverts 1080i for cable or satellite channels. It's not a perfect solution, but it's better than nothing. If you care mostly about price, search for HDTVs on fatwallet...
The only advice Fatty ever gave that I will actually follow: http://www.hwhpr.com/pr/westinghouse/houseparty07/TX_1080p.html The Westinghouse TX series of LCD's will hit the stores on May 25th. For looks, price, performance, adaptability and delayed obsolescence it's the the clear cut choice. I just have to keep holding on to my tax refund till they are available. (more than your budget though )
I've read a couple of reviews that say Westinghouse's warranty service is pretty lame. Have any of you had any issues?
