For residential, everyone I know that has tried ADT absolutely hated them. We have Brinks and are very satisfied.

Had ADT and hated it ... When the alarm went off, they would call and NEVER ask for my password (I guess this is common with them and I'm sure burglars would know it too). The funniest part is that I had to give them my password when I called to cancel my service.

I have ADT for quite a few years now and don't have any issues. Haven't had too many alarms but they did ask for my password each time.

I use Brinks, and they're pretty good. Every time my alarm has gone off (stupid mistake false alarm), they call right away and always ask for the password.

i use a local houston company called OMNI and they have been real good. customer service nice but i've never had any incidents or false alarms to warrant much about HOW they would do. my guess is good since no probs thus far.

    also, MUCH cheaper than brinks.

i've got brinks. a few false alarms but only b/c of relatives not knowing any better. question though...technically, can't a burglar just cut the phone lines and basically render a house alarm moot?

Yeah that's totally possible. They have things to help mitigate it though, like cell backup etc.

I have protection one and its been pretty good for me. If I had a false alarm for some reason and turn it off within like 20 secs, they won't call us at all. They want to deal with a bunch of false alarms

Has anyone heard of Ranger American? My parents new house is wired by them. I called and left a message but no one has returned my call.

I called Brinks. Brinks said they could convert it to their system for free. The only turnoff with Brinks is a 3 year contract. The rep also knocked off the registration fee with the local police dept. (I think this is a bogus fee). I called her on it because she didn't know who my local police dept. was.

I have Comcast Home Security. I guess they are good...never had to deal with customer service except one time when we set the alarm but didnt close the door properly so it went off and one of their reps called us right away to verify.

Isn't Ranger American just the hardware manufacturer...they build the actual alarm hardware that gets installed in your house and then you can select any monitoring company you want to use. I have Ranger American alarm system but its monitored by Comcast.

My wife works for and alarm company we use them. They have had several people call them and switch from ADT to their company. Lots of complaints.

The only alarm system I use in my gorgeous mansion is the sniper's nest, automatic weapons, false walls, and ghillie suit. Trespassers will be shot. Survivors will be shot again.

Up here in the Dallas area most people just go to ADT since the equipment ADT's and Ranger is/was just an ADT dealer or works with them in some capacity. I remember looking at their prices when I bought my house about 4.5 years ago and from what I recall, they were costlier than going directly to ADT.

The fee is legit. But it's only like $10 a year.
