First, read this: http://bbs.clutchcity.net/php3/showthread.php?s=&threadid=56081 I started a duplicate thread here a couple days back which was merged with the one in NBA Dish, to talk about Mr. Foyle's involvement with campaign finance reform, etc. In the thread I mentioned that I'd emailed him inviting him to check out the BBS Hangout (which is why I'm posting this here). I told him that I thought the level of socio-political debate and discourse was generally very high here, especially for a sports site, and that I thought he'd enjoy the site. He just wrote me back. Here's his email: Hey Jason: Thanks for your e-mail. I agree with you 100% that the more we all engage in healthy discussions, the better we will become. I will check out the website and hope to hear from you again soon. Should you attend next years game in Houston, stop by the court and say "hello". All my best, Adonal PS: Should you speak with Mayor Brown soon, please let him know I reside in Oakland should he ever have time to chat!
Let's hope he doesn't see the strip club thread. Not exactly a lot of high-level socio-political debate going on in there.
Cringes, thinking about the hate piled on some of our own players. Considering some of the Stossel like selective coverage of data by some people, a few of the other threads aren't very high level, either.
Stossel-like? LOL, that's a good one. Would he be the first NBA player to ever post here? (That we know of, obviously.)
What a nice guy! I actually re-read a book called "The Last Amateurs" by John Feinstein. It details college basketball in the Patriot League, which is where Adonal played his NCAA ball. Good read, like many of Feinstein's. He's certainly one of the guys who I'm going to look for in the box scores now.
He could have gone to Duke but opted to stay with his family and thought that decision was the best academic choice. Maybe it was. Maybe not. I mean Duke is Duke. But he made his decision based on academics. Worked out for him in terms of school and basketball. So you have to respect that.
I hope he does stop in, so that we can have the opportunity to 'reform' his cynical views of politics. I'd be happy to share my theories of wealth being the compensation for benefit contributed to society and how this should affect political decision making.
Bring in Adonal. Batman, I liked the idea before when you mentioned it, but I know I probably never would have had the initiative to send him the e-mail. Way to go!
When I was bragging on this board, you were actually one of the main ones I expecting would embarass me and prove me wrong about the level of discourse here, Jorge. But then I thought, well, maybe Adonal will reform Jorge. Funny how you want to reform him. Funnier still you'd call a believer like Adonal Foyle a cynic. There is no one I've met in my life who is more cynical than you. Ever. And yet I continue talking to you. It gets harder every day. I partly credit the Foyle article with lending me the strength to continue my attempts at communication with you, against all reasonable odds. Like talking to a brick wall, but I will keep trying, even as you parody yourself (and the rest of us who try to talk to you), in hopes you will one day learn by example how to have a civil conversation. p.s. Adonal Foyle rules.
You know, the only way I can actually get my head around T_J's posts is that he's portraying a deliberate parody. Of course, the joke is wearing thin now. I shudder to think that he actually means what he says...
