It seems like the no. 1 thing that constantly crashes my browser and slows down my computer is Flash. I don't like that I don't have Flash at all on my ipad, but it seems to be very faulty. Can HTML 5 do all the things Flash can do? Is Flash dying right now?
JQuery can achieve a lot of the same things that Flash does. Here's short article that explains some advantages of JQuery vs. Flash and gives some (cool) practical examples at the bottom. http://aext.net/2010/03/javascript-jquery-killing-flash-tutorial-jquery-plugin/ HOPEFULLY this is the future and Flash will die out...
I don't have any issue at all with Flash using Firefox or Chrome on Windows 7 64x. I've noticed Flash been improving and my video hardly stutter any more.
I'm for whatever format all platforms support. Flash won't be supported by Apple because Jobs has a stick up his butt. HTML5 will be supported by everything. Thus, I will lean towards HTML5 (when the kinks are worked out, of course).
HTML5 need to show me something promising and good but so far it's been disappointing. Steve Jobs should just shut the hell up at the moment because HTML5 isn't even ready yet. I don't think it's going to dethrone Flash and Flash isn't going anywhere. I'm pretty sure they will find a way to work well together.
It was never about whether or not HTML5 was going to be ready. It's all about Jobs trying to monopolize and control the universe man. You should know this!
Jobs talking about not wanting to use proprietary technology is one of the funniest, hypocritical things I've heard.
I work with Flash all the time, and there is NO WAY jquery and HTML5 can do what flash is capable of. However, flash is bad for web standards.
Amdroid 2.2 (FroYo) will have both html5 and flash. So now developers who jump to Android can choose either.
Flash doesn't have to be slow and cpu intensive. Depends on the programmer. The thing that flash has going for it is that everyone uses it. Adobe has let it gone to rot, but it's still salvageable.
One of the main issues is you have non programmers making Flash apps. Flash may be the only language they have ever written code for and don't fully understand things like garbage collection, memory leaks, etc. That's why some Flash apps are buggy. Java has many of the same issues, but Java intimidates some of the people who use Flash. The people Java scare away are the ones that don't know much about programming. Basically, Flash attracts a lot of inexperienced people who want an easy way to make an animation or a web app. It should be no surprise there is Flash content out there that crashes. Any content development program that has millions of people using it will have this issue (unless they took out almost all the coding ability). There are also some amazing things done in Flash. Looking at it from a developer perspective, it has turned into a powerful tool to create web apps and not too long ago desktop apps. Some of the richest content on the web has been created in Flash.
