My company decide to purchases some new design software, and the representative at Adobe told my boss that company like ours which do alot graph design stuff, should purchases the entire Adobe Creative Suite CS. But the problem is that I actually only have used Photoshop before, and we have no idea what does Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe GoLive! do. What are the differents between them and Photoshop (I saw people use Illustrator before, and the interface looks alot like Photoshop), and is it worth it to spend the money?
photoshop- is used for photography, photo touch up and collage. it is also based on raster art or pixels . example: the type in photoshop is jagged or pixelated at a low resolution. even though you can create a logo in photoshop it is not the best idea. also photoshop uses RGB and CMYK color values. illustrator is based on vector art or lines no pixels and is more of a drawing program . example: the type in illustrator is smooth at any resolution and can be enlarged indefinately and the file size stays the same. also. you can create an advert with text in illustrator but you are limited to one page. also the color in Illustrator can be spot colors such as pantone. InDesign is a more of a page layout program. like for doing multipage documents and adverts with lots of type. like a booklet or magazine. GoLive is a web design program. All of these programs are made to work together therefore the interfaces look similar, for ease of use. I hope this helps, but I have to say that i am a little curious to know what kind of graphic design your company does and not know about Illustrator or InDesign since they are pretty much the standard.
