Ike flooding totaled the interior of my house, my family is shell-shocked by the whole thing, so we decided to move to Fort Worth, where I have some family and friends. I already scored a good job (thanks for the Suit advice, guys), and my wife is going to start teaching somewhere soon. I'll miss the Houston area, most specifically my friends, easy access to Rockets games, and random Rockets fans I meet on the street. I won't miss the humidity. I'll be back a lot, at least until I get the insurance/FEMA stuff taken care of with my casa. Here's to good times, past, present and future! J
that's awesome dude, turn a negative into a positive. i have a lot of family in fort worth, its a beautiful town.
Those Cowgirl fans are already trying to suck me in. Nevar! I've already had some playful banter about the Mavs, although most people I've talked to will admit that they aren't as good as they were a couple of years ago. As soon as I clean my old office out, my Yao statue is going right in the middle of my desk.
Congrats on making the best out of the worst - I'm impressed, frankly. Of course, you're in dallas now... Jeremiah... watch out for your cornhole, bud.
I thought about that. But I have a really good support system here. My mom lives two miles from my new job, and my son loves being with her and just here in general. My best friend lives here, and my cousin lives right next door. I also really get along with her finance. The biggest stumbling block was a job. But that all fell into place when I got a nice Network Admin offer from a really cool company. Everyone here is sincerely happy about what they do. It's rare these days, IMO. Being able to stay with my mom enables me to help her with bills instead of paying rent somewhere or getting a second mortgage. As for Fort Worth- it's really pretty, the people are nice (I won't count the Dallas sports bias against them), the city is booming, and there are actual seasons here. The housing market actually seems to be better in terms of price.
Congrats...dfw rocket knows ft worth well...shoot him an e-mail...I know dallas so if you ever need anything...
Ahh, yeah your kid should spend as much time with his grandma. I have an aunt there and for some reason, I think Fort Worth as a gang infested city. I got that impression because I heard the problem was bad there a long time ago. It might have changed now. Good luck again!
Good luck. Wasn't the Fort Worth area recruiting heavily for teaching jobs a few months ago offering some pretty good bonuses? If I remember correctly, they went to California and advertised for teachers there that got let go.
and it will all be a failure if your kid becomes a cowboys, mavs, and/or rangers fan. dont let us down!
Sounds like you are in a better situation now regardless of Ike. Hope everything gets straightened out with your house in Galveston.
Ha ha, that would be funny. But I don't think my insurance covers acts of war or nuclear spills, so no thanks.
good luck with the move my man you better drive down to h-town though next time i am down there though! glad to see things are working out for you after what had happened
i should put this in the conspiracy thread........ but anyways it looks all the stories on missing residents are starting to hit the major news outlets. http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/10/02/ike.missing/index.html Hundreds missing after Hurricane Ike Alligators loom over submerged cars. Mountains of debris are embedded in the ground. Cows, trucks and the remnants of homes are sunk into the ocean. And unverified sightings of missing loved ones are still making the rounds.
