I noticed them playing zone quite a bit at the Memphis game and then I came across this article.

    Chron

What do you think? Can it be more effective against tougher teams?

Zone will only work with teams that don't have good wing players.

Solution, get a defensive coach. We're one of the worst defensive teams in the league and our offense aint even that much fun to watch. At least D'Antoni's offense sells.

I would love to see 48 minutes of packed in zone against the Heat. But good golly miss molly, Adelman's all but saying we have NO CHANCE to be any good.

We have no defense at 3 out of 5 starting positions....it was 2 but Lowry, for some reason has retired from defense.

Exactly, I've always considered the zone defense as a last resort or gimmicky in game solution. This will not end well but at least they're trying something.

Its not about the coaches, its not about defensive schemes, its not that we play up-tempo. When it comes to defense, its all about effort. And on the defensive end, the only one i've noticed that gives all out effort 100% of the time is Chuck.

If our team can commit itself to the defensive end, we'll be much better regardless of our player personnel.

I guess you actually CAN blame the coaching staff for not teaching these guys how to play fundamental defense.

Zone doesn't work in the NBA, except against the Rockets. I hate the zone. It's useless at the pro level.

With lockdown defense the offense will take care of itself.

Its not the coaching. RA has never been a bad defensive coach, many of his teams were pretty good on that end. The rockets are soft and undersized in two of the most important defensive positions ( frontcourt, chuck is outstanding but way too small to be the defensive presence needed and scola is a joke), they have two point guards that's have never been, and will never be anything special defensively, and Kmart. One good defender in our starting unit will not cut it.

i tried my best not to blame our defense tailspin on RA but now i have no choice. he doesn't believe the effort is what defense needs. he can't bring out the best of defense from each individual players.

i don't like his defense coaching capability.

talking doesn't mean anything. a good coach can bring the best out of a player. clearly, his talking didn't do anything and just wasted.
