He isn’t campaigning for the job. With his credentials through a stellar coaching career, he doesn’t have to.

But asked if he would be interested in the vacant Trail Blazers general manager position, Rick Adelman doesn’t hesitate.

“I’d love to talk to them,” says Adelman, fired in April after four seasons as head coach of the Houston Rockets. “I’d be interested in talking to them about any position.”

Adelman pauses, then amends his comments.

“I have no interest in the head coaching job,” he says. “I need to make that clear. They have a really good coach (Nate McMillan). Nate has done a great job.”

Why are we using overly sensational and worse thread titles than real jouranlists here?

Why can't we just say Adelman is open or interested in Portland's next GM job (which is all the article says)? He's never been approached or openly considered for the job (at least yet).

Apparently Rocket employees (like CJMVP) are using this as an opportunity to justify their decision to fire Rick. I think most rationale people would say that Rick is just interested in working with the Blazers again, in any capacity.

Adelman says he's interested in any job with Portland, not just the GM job. He rejects the coaching job out of deference to McMillan, but if that position opened up, I'm pretty sure he'd jump at that chance too.

That said, Adelman doesn't really strike me as a GM type. He's probably very good at assessing talent, but would he know how to maneuver the small deals to free up the salary cap in the long term, or get that extra second-round pick that will prove useful two seasons from now?

Maybe he can rehire Rich Cho as an assistant GM. :)

It's the influence of what's happening in actual media IMO. People see how it works on news sites and then try to do the same.

I really doubt Adelman gets seriously considered for this job.

RA wasn't fired, was he? Les didn't pick up a new contract with him and the old one ran its natural course to the end. He wasn't fired.

yeah i agree with this. he wasnt fired, he just didnt get his contract renewed. dont get me wrong, i absolutely admire RA since his days in Sac but we cant really control what Rockets management does. All i hope is we incorporate most of RA's offensive schemes and make modifications where necessary. im sure that could be K-Mac's pitch when he was interviewed. apparently he likes ball movement and player movements, plus he stresses hard nose defense the old fashion way. but i do wish RA all the best, he really just needs to coach because that is his passion and i do hope he wins a ring one day.

Its pretty much a firing because RA wanted another contract and Les/DM said no. Like what the other poster said, its all just semantics because the reality is he was fired.

RA being a GM is ridiculous. To be a GM requires a lot of work, and you need to constantly work the phones and keeps tabs on every player on the roster. I doubt he has the energy to that, he's almost 70 and way past the retirement age.
