    [Opening statement]

Your 'honor'....... I am here to present this BBS with credible information and argument that supports my claim as well as my client (Malick Badiane) that he has reached his plateau as far as development in Europe is concerned and he is ready to join the Houston Rockets as early as the begining of the 2005-2006 NBA season.

The black guy in that picture is Johan Petro of Pau Orthez (France). He regarded as many as a 2/3-year project but he is projected as a first rounder in this upcoming draft according to nbadraft.net (#15), draftcity.com (#18), ***********.com (#29) and hoopshype.com (#) mock drafts.

Now lets take a look at nbadraft.net's scouting reports of both players.....

Another scouting report on Petro can be found here

The argument here is that Malick was a victim of timing and hypelessness back in 2003. Johan is a marginal player on his current club in Europe (ala Niko Skitishvili). He is just riding the "potential" badwaggon and this we feel should be extend to our client.

    * His stats are comparable to Malick's.

    * They are about the same height and weight.

    * The athletic abilities are about the same according to the reports. Their wing spans are favorable as well.

    * At least we know Malick is hungry and has a great work ethic.

    * They are about the same age (2 years difference to be exact).

We are confident if given the opportunity, Malick will be just as successful if not more in the NBA.

It is our belief that there is very little left for Malick to learn in Europe that he cannot learn hanging and practicing with greats like Yao Ming, Juwan Howard and Dekembe Mutombo. We hope that you will review our case and see rule favorably for us.

You are making a good case for Petro not being a first round pick, and that Badiane would have been a mistake to spend one on.

Fortunately, actual scouts do the evaluation and drafting and not the goofballs over at nbadraft.net, so I don't think you have to worry about anybody blowing a lotto selection on him.

It's difficult to accurately compare and evaluate talent unless you've actually seen them play, which I doubt you have.

I fail to see how Nicholoz Tskitishvili's lack of stats in Europe is a plus for these guys??

I would've thought that his performance merely showed that a guy who can't make his Euro team certainly shouldn't be on a NBA team.....

Badiane certainly has that athletic component - so what's the harm in seeing what he's got in Summer League! If he stinks there, then back to Europe - if he succeeds then sign him up. But let's at least wait and see what he's like before putting him on next seasons roster!!

    Exactly what I was thinking.

This tells us nothing about whether or not Badaine is ready or not. We'll just have to wait until he comes for summer workouts and summer league play to determine this.

As far as his Euro play is concerned with, it just doesn't seem he is ready. Obviously none of us have seen him play which is a huge factor, but his stats show that he isn't even a big contributor to his Germany team which worries me.

I am surprised so many folks are willing to write Badiane off with little or no personal knowledge of him. My major concern is that Malick is getting quality coaching. Is he being trained in Germany as a center or a PF. Basically, I am just p*ssed I can't see how he has developed for myself. I haven't seen any video in two years and the mystery is killing me. His amazing physical attributes of size, length, speed, quickness, mental toughness, and desire (from what I saw 2 years ago) were what we would like to put next to Yao. We need someone like him so badly. Unfortunately physical attributes don't always tanslate directly into basketball ability. It would be nice to have him here to see for myself. Maybe we will see him this summer. I guess I, and maybe some others, remember another young man who came over here from Africa with amazing physical attributes and rose to take the Rox to a couple of championships.

ps. No, I am not comparing Malick to Hakeem, so don't start.

He's not ready and may never be.

Let's look for our PF solution in the draft instead.

It's funny that you think that he couldn't get quality coaching because he's in europe. I don't think there is that much of a difference. There are lots of good coaches outside of the USA. I would even go further and say that for the things he has to work on (his skills) the coaching over here may be superior to the coaching he would get in the US. Offensive skills, shooting, passing - that are the strengths of the european style of basketball.

I beg your pardon. I mean't no disrespect to the Euro coaches or style of play. I believe that the Olympics showed us that the Euro teams are well coached, but maybe for a different style of play than the NBA. IMO Badiane doesn't need to be an offensive powerhouse for the Rox. We need him as PF here and I think he may be playing center in Germany. For our needs he just needs to run like a deer to defend Nowitski, jump like hell to block shots in the paint, and rebound all the missed shots he can whether on the offensive or defensive end. A nice 15-foot jumper would be a plus.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

Quick question. Hypothetically, Badiane as starting PF next year - would he better/worse/comparable to Cato as starting PF last year?

Decent shot blocking & rebounding. Can hit an open 15 footer. Sounds like just what we need, right?

That's the problem, we can't see him to find out how well he is doing.
