I'm pretty sure I'm skipping no matter what. The Festival is a little too overrun and overcrowded for me anymore. Good stuff for 25 and under, or those that are 23 at heart. Evan
I like the lineup, but I'll be skipping ACL as well. Its way too overcrowded and too hot. Fun Fun Fun Fest at Waterloo Park also started this past year, and had a decent lineup. But its all about SXSW. This is the greatest music festival in the world.
If this is the same guy who posted the rumored list last year, I would take it with a very small grain of salt. The rumored list was fantastic. The actual list was horrid. It wouldn't have been so bad had the White Stripes and Rodrigo y Gabriela not backed out. Out of those rumors, I'd love to see Pearl Jam, Radiohead, Black Crowes, and Wilco as always (but the rumor guy is wrong. They haven't played all 6). Please, for the love of Jebus, keep Coldplay away. Too crowded and too hot? I'll be 33 by the time this one rolls around. I refuse to miss it because I know there's going to be something or someone I haven't had the chance to see/hear before. Based on price alone, it's more than worth a little heat. There may be a lot of people, but there are no lines for anything. It's exceptionally well planned out and gets better every year. You all just a bunch of weenies.
Helllllllllllll no. Hardly anybody gave a crap. The headliner that year ? The under-celebrated Austin based roots rock group, Arc Angels. (coincidentally, the whole reason I went to ACL that year) I wish I could remember the price of the weekend passes, but I think it was something along the lines of maybe 60 bucks? I paid 30 for mine.. at the gate.. the day of the festival.. of which there was no line for.. and ample parking
This year's lineup announced. Blows last year out of the f***ing water. ACL 2008 Lineup Off the top, I will see... Beck Foo Fighters Allison Krause & Robert Plant John Fogerty David Byrne Iron & Wine The Black Keys Eli Young Band Jakob Dylan & Gold Mountain Rebels Galactic Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings Vampire Weekend Yonder Mountain String Band Drive By Truckers Mason Jennings Heartless Bastards Antibalas Back Door Slam Alejandro Escovedo etc., etc., etc.
As much as I love the Foo, I don't see myself going to this one at all. It's far too overcrowded and I'm not into that overall lineup at all. I honestly feel the lineups and atmosphere peaked in 2003 and 2004. To each his own, of course. Evan
In deed. Yeah, it's crowded. Yeah, it's hot. It's also a lot of great music. If you only go for what you know, then it's probably not for you. It's always been about discovery for me. I could do it at SXSW, but here I get to do it all in one place in one weekend.
I'm heading to Coachella next week and will be making the trip to ACL as well. Now I just gotta figure out a way to get to Glastonbury and my 2008 tour will be complete.
Man Man should be a good show. And for the hip-hop crowd, N.E.R.D. and Del tha Funkee Homosapien are gonna be there too.
Coachella is such crap this year. My sis was gonna buy me tix for my b-day. I asked for Jeans instead. They had to get Prince cuz ticket sales are down.
Are you kidding me?!!!??! The Coachella lineup is amazing this year! Do yourself a favor and check out some new music. It's the lineup that caused me to make the decision to go for the first time this year. Here are some of the acts I plan on seeing. Prince Portishead Roger Waters Modeselektor Boys Noize The Raconteurs Kraftwerk APHEX TWIN! Justice Fatboy Slim Gogol Bordello Hot Chip Simian Mobile Disco Holy F&#$ ...And a bunch of others I don't feel like typing. Seriously how anyone can think this is a bad lineup is beyond me.
Looking at the lineup, it seems the casual music fan will be disappointed this year. The feature acts are pretty weak in comparison to years past. But there are really good second and third tier bands especially if you follow indie rock. One of the standout acts I see is Hot Chip. They put on really good live shows.
