Dust factor is being removed with a complete overhaul of Zilker Park. The heat shouldn't be a factor since they've moved it back to October 2-4. Parking isn't that hard if you try. What problem can you possibly have getting your ticket? Maybe you could take this to the festival...
You specifically said that their fan base affects how much you do or don't appreciate them. If you like the music, the dbag fans shouldn't change that. Affect you going to a show? maybe. Basically, it implies you'd like the music more if you weren't afraid you'd be classified in that dbag class. Maybe that's not what you meant, but that's what got the comment. I'm not a huge dmb fan, btw, but I've seen them live and it was a good show. I'm just keepin track, especially after the spiteful and misguided "clapton is overrated" comment. Maybe he's not everyone's favorite, but you can't argue with the man's accomplishments in music. If someone with discernible taste makes an overrated list, he's not on it. All that said, the lineup looks very very good. Would really like to see Kings of Leon, though the more albums they release, the less I really like them. MB the lineup is a bit dated, but if you're gonna go dated, Pearl Jam, Beasties, and Sonic Youth are a great way to do it. Ben Harper making the usual appearance is a good thing. I also wouldn't mind seeing the Decemberists, Toadies, Arctic Monkeys. Oh, cool, just saw that the Walkmen will be there as well! Wrap that up with the best thing about the festival is catching a band you didn't know about and really enjoying something new.
To me, seeing the headliners is nice and all, but this comment is the reason I have been to every ACL. I have much more fun when I'm wondering from stage to stage for a couple songs at a time rather than camping out at the main stages. I will see Pearl Jam, Beasties, and KoL, but I'm there more for Black Joe Lewis and The Honeybears and many of the other smaller acts that I haven't had a chance to see live, yet. I just don't get the people that wouldn't come just because of the headliners. You're talking about 5 of the 130+ bands.
no, that was never my point, let me clarify. if not for the "fan base" i would never even known they existed. let's not forget that britney spears has a rabid fan base as well, so i've heard of her and her music. with DMB, the fans react with a worshipful reverence that usually accompanies great artists. i checked him out, found that this was not the case and was only left with bewilderment. i don't mind sentimental and sappy but i hate cliche. DMB is cliche.
Cool, just saying, that was why he said that. It is? Nah, just a tangent or two... thread still has it's original legs... don't give up hope yet. If I have the money, and the swine flu hasn't destroyed civilization as we know it, I'll be at the festival for the three day full meal deal. It's a good lineup.
The Lolla lineup is unreal. I'm seriously considering making the trip up there with airfare being cheap right now.
