I was hoping we'd take a good look at him since he was projected to go around the mid-twenties at the beginning of the season, but I think his stock might be going up with the way he's been playing lately. Anyone else think he would be a good pick for us if he was still there? Good passer, good finisher, and incredibly clutch. Thoughts?
a PG version of a better Luther Head. homeboy can ball. unfortunately, much like the whole situation with Kevin Kolb and the Texans, this home-grown product is doing so well that he likely won't be available when we pick. he's gonna take over the tournament. defense wins championships, and with Billy G coaching, A&M will go far.
btw - i have an incriminating story about him, but i think i'll share it later, tired from both of the games tonight (Rox and A&M). i'll tell it tomorrow.
i hate acie law. of course, i'm just bitter. i'm a longhorn and i went to the UT/A&M game last year in college station and acie law hit a game-winning 3 in daniel gibson's face for the win. the aggies rushed the court and i was heckled like crazy on the way out.
Acie Law isn't a point guard. He's a slasher, but he dominates the ball. He wouldn't be a good fit here.
Of course you were heckled! And I've been heckled when going to A&M/Longhorn games in Austin. But I guess that's the price you pay when you do that. Look, even you longhorn fans have to admit Acie Law is a talent as you all have seen it up close. Would he be a good addition to the Rox? Hell yeah, he is right now far better than our backup PGs in all facets (scoring/shooting, defense, passing, decision-making).
No doubt that Law is a talented player, but like Ziggy posted, I think he may just be a good college player. A lot of guys like Reddick, Ager, McCants, Emmitt, are good college players but their games aren't really made for the NBA. I thought Antoine Wright was a better prospect and he hasn't done much in the NBA.
I disagree, and not because I am an Aggie. I have been watching Law pretty closely for the past few years, and he has made some amazing strides to look as good as he does now. He is one of the hardest workers I have seen, in college. He has the smarts, the balls, and the D-fense, to play NBA basketball, but he lacks speed and an NBA shot. He would be no worse than Skip, in our Offense. I think he plays a lot like Mark Jackson, the old Knick and Rocket for a coulple of years. He is under control, and steady. I think he'll go and play in the NBA and will be a contributor, but not a star.
I agree ... I think he will be a solid contributor and not a star in the NBA. He will do a lot of things to help your team win. His 15 assists last night were way bigger than his points. I think he'd be a solid late 1st round, early 2nd round pickup.
Law is a very solid player with a good work ethic and reasonably high basketball IQ, rarely turns over the ball. However he is not very athletic and does not do anything spectacular. He has a good jump shot, but nothing special; he can play defense, but it doesn't stand out; he's quick, but its not as if his first step is explosive. I still think DJ Augustine and Dominic James are better prospects then him (I don't know if DJ will come out), but if he leads aTm deep in the tourney, then I wouldn't mind taking him in the 20's. I think his draft status depends on how far aTm goes, if they lose in the 1st round he could fall to the second round, but if he gets them to the Elite 8, then he could get chosen in the top 20....
i'm still deliberating whether or not i should tell this story, b/c i'm afraid of the scrutiny that Acie (& A&M) might end up facing.
No way it breaks out from the BBS? At least send me a private message. I wont tell. Have my word. Aggies never lie, cheat, steal, etc...
Not to say Acie Law isn't a great passer, but take his assists with a grain of salt. Apparently, the A&M official scorer is incompetent. In the UT-A&M game, Aggies had 29 assists on 33 baskets. Acie Law had 15. DJ Augustine was credited with 9 and UT was credited with 18 as well. So this week, UT asked to remove 8 of the 18 assists because they weren't accurate. Apparently, the implication is that the A&M official scorer inflates assists. From data at Hornfans (don't know the accuracy): A&M is 4th in the nation assists; 43rd in scoring A&M averages 23 assists at home, and 11 on the road. A&M's never had less than 16 assists in a home game. They've never had more than 16 in a road game. In home games, they've been credited with assists on something like 80% of their baskets. It's bizarre. If this is all true, I think A&M needs to re-teach its official scorer the definition of an assist.
I believe you. When the game was over and I heard Law had 15 I was shocked. Usually I can pickup when a player is having a high assist game. But that came out of nowhere after the game...
