Anyone ever have it. How long does it take to heal up?

Last December, in the faculty vs students basketball game, I played 3 quarters, hobbling along on the ankle.(8 pts, didn't count the rebounds, but I didn't lose many)

I had to sit out the entire 4th qtr because my ankle cooled down and tightened up. I didn't realize what it was and thought it would just "get better" After about a month, I was able to walk without any discomfort, but I think it went from acute to chronic, because every so often, when I would get out of the car and walk to class, I find myself slightly favoring it.

So this past Tuesday, I was out in the backyard after work watching my boys play and my Dalmation takes off to eat my sisters cat. I sprinted down to break it up, but when I took the first step, I felt the tendon strain again. I finally did some research and found out it's not going to heal by leaving it alone. I am now strap taping the back of my ankle, icing it, taking ibuprofen...I haven't had to shave my legs for taping since high school...

So has anyone had this, and how lond did it take to heal. I can't afford to be off my feet, but this limp is bugging me.

On a similar note, I felt a pop at my achilles tendon a couple of weeks ago. It hurt to put any pressure on my foot for a few days and there was slight swelling. Now, it's much better but I still get pain everyonce in a while. I thought it would go away on its own but, now, I guess not? Do I have the same thing? I don't really know about this stuff and I don't feel like going to a doctor.

Sounds like you may have partially torn your achilles tendon...ouch.

I've been playing Ultimate weekly for about 7 years and about 2 years ago I started having pretty serious achilles tendon problems in both ankles. The tendons ached constantly, especially when first getting up in the morning and always when going up and down stairs. It was chronic and not acute, so I never stopped playing. After getting a new pair of cleats, the problem resolved itself pretty quickly and now I feel no achilles tendon pain at all.

In your situation, I would reccomend taking ibuprofren daily for awhile (watch the drinking alcohol though) and daily stretching your tendons. You also might look into new shoes or a shoe insert. The good news is that it can heal.

I also had that happen to me once while playing Ultimate about five years ago. I actually thought I had been shot with a bb gun or something by kids near the fields. In any case, in that situation I had to stop playing completely for about a month, maybe longer. But it got better and I was able to continue playing.

I chipped a bone in my ankle playing basketball, and ive been wearing a boot for about 2 weeks now. My Achilles tendon feels so tight and weak, its beginning to be the main thing that hurts now

I've had tendinitis in my Achilles. I can't remember how long it took to heal. I was stretching plenty. From what I remember I was able to rest a couple of days then be active on it again, bu it flare up. It seemed like it was off an on for about a year until I was able to rest it for a long time(a couple of months with no strenuous exercise and a lot of stretching. Since then I haven't had any flare ups at all, and I have probably been extremely active lately.

Good luck. I hate that feeling. I found some ankle support things, that helped a fraction.
