Have some friends who are heading over to the States in June. The original idea was to visit one of their parents who are working in Houston, however after buying the tickets, there is now a strong chance the parents won't be there. They are going to be in town for a couple of nights, think it is the 28 and 29, and are planning to go see the Stros play, think they are playing colorado..... they have kids, so have suggested Johnson Space centre and then maybe Kemah, Galveston Bay and maybe that gardens, butterfly house place, and maybe the aquarium.... so where would be an easy spot for them to stay and any hotel/apartment suggestions would be great.... Honetly, get a hotel through priceline.com. Make sure they use the 4 star option around the Downtown or Galleria area; that's the best deal option. I do a lot of sports travel and I always get amazing deals. I stayed at the Ritz-Carlton for a game in Dallas fro $49. Regualar price was $99 a night. I've never been dissapointed with priceline.
regular price for a ritz in dallas was 99 a night......???? mustve been mid week off peak time or something or a really crappy ritz!! anyways, priceline is the best, as long as your flexible on location
When I was there last April I stayed at this place called Crestwood Suites on the Northwest Freeway. Even though its one of those run of the mill suite places for the price it was a great deal. I paid around $50 a night and free wi-fi internet was included. The only drawbacks for a family though are there isn't a pool for kids and it is a little ways out from the sites you are planning on seeing but since its right on the freeway its pretty easy to get going.
I stayed at the JW marriott in the galleria last week for about 90 bucks night with tax and parking. Parking was 15 dollars a day. The rate was only 65 dollars on priceline.
Smeg seems like a lot of the places they are planning on going to are in the southeast quadrant of the metro area, maybe look for a spot in the Clear Lake area instead. I never stay in hotels in this area for obvious reasons, but it seems to me hotels outside the loop should be cheaper and just as nice for the most part. yea, you aint gonna get a RItz or Doubletree or Omni, but really, who the hell really needs to blow the cash for what little extra they give you.
Their best bet would be the Hilton on NASA Rd 1. http://www1.hilton.com/en_US/hi/hot...&xch=1702281,VSQXO1XW4VJG2CSGBIX2VCQKIYFCXUUC
hotwire.com is imho the cheapest. But you can't choose your exact hotel-- just the number of stars and area of town. Also it seems like you can do it up to an hr or so before you decide to check in. Some of the others, at least in the past, do not work the same day you want to check in. I've never had a bad experience with them and had some great positive surprises. BTW an old friend from Houston, who I speak to every couple years, called me about a month ago to say he had moved to Melbourne a year ago and gotten married to a local woman who he met on the internet. The guy is about 50, never married, seldom dated, never a girlfriend as far as I know. Happy as hell. Loves his accounting job and especially the vastly better vacation benefits that they have in other parts of the world. In the excitement I forgot to get his number and don't have caller id. He promised to email me pictures of his wedding. He got my e-mail, but I forgot to ask for his. Very very common name. Any good ideas of how to find him?
If they are going to do a lot of things on the southeast side of town, they could also look into the hotels on the Kemah Boardwalk. Nice view of the water, but I know nothing about the rooms or prices.
My suggestion would be to stay the night in downtown after the Stros game (the Hilton Americas next to Totota Center is having a very, very difficult time booking rooms, they can get a great deal at a very nice hotel w/in walking distance of MMP & the Main Street area; and trolly distance to Herman Park, Museums, etc....) Spend the other night either at the Hilton Clear Lake or around Kemah, if they're planning on doing a day's worth of stuff down on the coast.
Nope. It's the one off the Dallas Tollway. Next to SMU. I was there on a Saturday and Sunday to watch UH play. One the nicest hotels I've ever stayed in.
and if they did this option then they would probably only need a car for day and drop it of direct to the airport on departure like your thinking buck
