A recently formed charity, with Trump children sitting on the board, had sent out invitation ,soliciting donations. The invitation made an extraordinary offer:
Donors willing to write a check for $500Kto $1 million would be granted access to Donald J. Trump the day after he is sworn in as president, along with the opportunity to participate in a multi-day hunting or fishing trip with his oldest sons, Donald Jr. and Eric.

Could they at least try to not give the appearance that they are such complete idiots?

Either that or they're playing a very dangerous game to see just how far they can push things. Put it out there and see what the reaction is. If it's quiet, move on to step 2. If there's push back, act like you didn't have anything to do with it.

They did reverse themselves, per the article.

But, it's so damn obvious what the point is in the first place. They created a nonprofit with no well-defined mission -- just a vague indication that they would donate the net proceeds of their donations to conservation nonprofits. There's no rationale for Opening Day Foundation to exist. What can the purpose be other than to monetize White House access? They don't ever seem to even think about the ethical dimensions of what they do until the newspapers catch them.

Does this not bother the supporters of Donald on this board at all?

Maybe I am getting too numb with Trump pushing the boundaries more and more. Nothing he does or says really shocks or surprises me anymore.

And yet, he's still a month from being sworn in. Lord help us all.

I think it's clear that's exactly what they're doing. Until he surrenders his company's assets into a blind trust, this kind of behavior will continue to happen.

It's only logical that Trump would run his presidency like he ran his businesses. Most of them are straight cons. It's what he knows how to do best. He ran his campaign by lying to people and testing the waters when too much backlash made his support untenable. I would hope some of those closer to him in his cabinet can get through to him how these conflicts of interest will damage his presidency, and this country, before he assumes the office.

Come on.....this is going to get ridiculous...you want your way with the President? Just pay him.

Ignorance put this man in office, and now the rest of the country has to suffer for stupidity.

    Hooray!

Unfortunately there wasn't a viable alternative.

It's for giving proceeds to conservation nonprofits, if you weren't trying to read it the way you want it so much. Vagueness doesn't necessarily mean an ulterior motive. You don't have to be a hardcore fanatic of a cause to raise money for something; you can just give money to it if you have some lying around. But really, for those of you rather ignorant about taxes, rich people do charities for tax incentives. I'd say it's growing pangs for the Trumps at this point for them to learn what they can and can't do now that they're associated with government. If you want to say they did it to deliberately sell favor, then prove it - prove it the way it was proven for the Clintons.

Well... he won lol. You people have been saying he's breaking campaign promises a month ago - the wall, cutting costs, draining the swamp etc. and right after he doubles down on them. I think it's pretty obvious who's out of touch with reality at this point.

    Wait didn't you want Hillary?

Australia and Norway both cut donations to the Clinton Foundation (a "charity") the moment HIllary lost the election. Might be just coincidence though right?

IF you want evidence of pay to play, this is as clear cut as it gets. That being said, the stuff from Trump above is pretty bad.

Charities, on both sides, have become essentially political money laundering operations.

Trump's charity is under investigation in New York because he uses other people's money for legal issues. Trump donated (bribed) a Florida judge who coincidentally dropped Trump University lawsuit in the state.

Lol.... Trump has already dropped the "drain the swamp" campaign promise.... go read what Newt Gingrich said.

I think Trump supporters are out touch with reality and will soon be disappointed by Bush Jr. 2.0.

At least Clinton wasn't a snake oil salesman who didn't campaign on a bunch of BS like Trump.

You must be really out of touch. He already went back on draining the swamp today according to every news outlet. Even including breitbart.

How exactly is he doubling down on this?

    Why should they?
    There will be no consequence.
    His base doesn't care
Those who oppose him already know and have done nothing so far
    so
Really. . . Why should they even bother with appearences?
