Common guys it's apparent our beloved Rockets are in a semi-transition for next year. Signing old players for minimum contracts is down right counter productive. Next year will be tough but hey we've dealt with worse seasons before. Remember the francis migrane season? The Hakeem broken orbital bone? It's part of being a fan, It makes you appreciate winning more and also puts certain players worth in perspective. I for one will still tune in like I have for the last 20 odd years. I'm exited to see the progress our young guys have made and what the new group can provide. If we don't make the playoff so be it. even more importanly even if we are close I REALLY don't want to see Yao try to come back this year. Get healthy and gear up for next year.
Agreed. We have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Let Budinger develope and Taylor. Get Ariza alot of minutes and Dorsey some time at center. At worst we could get a very high draft pick and a bust out player performance from one of these guys to add to our bargaining chips. 2010 we add a huge player with Tmacs salary and could even trade Battier and keep one of those guys who had a big year or trade them for a better star. Draft real high, and Yao comes back and we have a contending team again.
I agree with you, we should be in no rush to win the title now. I like the way Budinger is playing, it looks like he is no doubt a shooter. Also, I've noticed that Jermaine Taylor has the talent to become a scorer who can create his own shot. We should wait for the 2010 off season and sign a big name like Chris Bosh. A lineup with Yao and Bosh would be hard to beat. All we can do is hope that our rookies produce in a big way, and I have confidence that they will.
Let the young guys play? Them playing is unavoidable at this point. Brooks will play a lot. Landry will play a lot. Ariza will play a lot. Lowry will get significant minutes. Budinger/Taylor/Dorsey are still a bit too green before we know how many minutes they'll get over people like Barry/Battier. We don't even know if they'll crack the rotation. But yes, we definitely needed an entirely new thread for all of this.
I agree let the young guys play. But I still think we need a few vets at key positions to help the development of these young guys. In other words invest in our teams future
After the summer leagues, Taylor is being undervalued. Remember, he wasn't a 100%. Let's see what he can do in training camp. We know Scola can ball. Landry can be a force. Brooks has shown flashes of serious talent. Battier is a mature leader, though in my opinion overrated on the floor. I hope Von is resigned. I think Lowry will improve. Ariza will bring a new dimension. Mix in some rookies and, yeah, let them show their stuff.
I know I'll probably get flamed for this but that's exactly why I understand all the lets trade Scola and Battier threads. We should trade them while they have some value and some youth left. We need younger players with more potential to replace all the old guys we are losing to injury or free agency. I know this may sound bad and the Knicks may not be willing to complete this but I would gladly trade Battier or Scola for a Larry Hughes plus a 1st round pick with a couple 2nd's. Whatever we do I think we need to try and let go of some of our better players that are older for some young talent or good 1st round picks with an expiring to make more room to go after a FA next year.
I understand the sarcasm, but We have had so many threads of "let's trade for this scrub or old player or not-really-star" or "let's sign this player that we do not really need" or "let's pay 3-4 million for scrub center we will regret next year" or "why hasn't morey made any moves?" or "everyone else has made great moves? why not morey?" or "we are still a great team, all we need is fill-in-blank and we can get to 2nd round next year. I believe" ... That is seems that a lot posters have not been paying attention or are in complete denial about the future of this team. To rebuild. Period, end of discussion. Yes, we would like to do it quickly and be in the discussion in 1-2 yrs, but until we see Yao on the court again and play out who we can actually get in the Summer of Lebron, we have no idea how long it will take. Honestly, we should just put out our young players and let them play and see if they can develop, get a good lottery pick, and maybe create more cap room by trading Battier...
Yeah seriously... trade scola!? why would the Rockets do that, he was the MVP of the team last season. Forget about signing guys like Ben Wallace and Allen Iverson, they're both aging and are not what they use to be. I'm all for developing the young guys for our long term goals.
I think they still have a couple of years left. Suck this round. Get a stud in the draft. Use McGrady's cap space to bring in an elite player. Try to get Yao to take a paycut. If he stays, great we'll be set. If he walks, oh well, that's another $20M to play with. We're in a good position for a quick reload at another 1-2 year window.
while I agree wholeheartedly with the OP, we still have enough of a core of talent in the supporting cast that if Morey got back a premier player for McGrady in a trade (e.g., a Bosh sign and trade, etc.) we could be very interesting. If Yao comes back and can be close to what he was, next season we have a chnace to be really interesting. Not shaping up to be the season we were hoping for exactly, but there is hope.
I've been saying this since the news about Yao came out. We're rebuilding and gain nothing from stop gap measures.
