By now we all know the fate of the GOP and the implosion of the party, so I want to ask the smart and informed Democrats what will happened to them once they take over with full control? No finger pointing to GOP, they are dead and out of the equation, you have the House, Senate and White House so talk about how long before the Democrats become the new Republicans with absolute power and no opposition to challenge them? Personally I have always felt the most effective government is one where the power is shared among the parties. So I am giving the Democrats a generous 2 years before they become their usual self and fall out of line from the promise. Please no blind faith defense, we are all enlightened men and have read enough history to understand how politics and power cycles work.
I hope the Democrats learned the lesson well from the Republicans and do not go down that path for at least 8 years.
They didn't get 60 seats, so, unless the Maine Republicans side with them over and over, they won't have absolute power. Block after block, filibuster after filibuster, just like the current senate term.
It's only a matter of time before the Dems start screwing up too. But that's why we have elections. The repubs had their shot at absolute power and they wasted it. Now lets see what the Dems can do. If they screw it up too, I'd bet a 3rd party errupts on the scene.
You are absolutely correct. The democrats have a responsibility to represent the 50+ million people that voted for the other guy.
That's why Obama said "Ill be your President too." A direct repudiation of Bush who ran and governed to 50% +1. Look, Dems will inevitably screw up. Obama will do things that make me mad and will do many more things that make my friends on the right furious. But Democrats are much better at governing and I expect the lessons of the Repubs will not be lost on them. Previously, it took the Congressional Dems 50 years to get kicked out. It took the Repubs 12. They will emulate the previous Dem majority.
