Not only should they be legal, every women should be forced to have one, as a rite of passage into a liberal democratic state.
me too. my position has evolved over the last couple years towards a more "pro-life" stance, but i could never support any law that prevents a woman from having sovereingty over thier own bodies. im at a bit of an internal conflict actually - i feel like there should be restrictions as far as 3rd trimester abortions and such, but if you are for that how can you still support abortions at all? what is the difference b/t a fetus in the 1st or 2nd trimester vs. the 3rd - are they less valid as life forms? or in the case of rape or incest? im too lazy to look up the #'s, but i would be curious to see percentage of women who abort babies from rape or incest vs. women who keep them. if anyone watches law and order: svu, the female lead is the vicitm of rape - it is probably the main factor that drives her at her job and they have milked several episodes out of that backstory. definate overtones showing a child born due to rape in a postive light - look at those hollywood liberals taking a pro-life stance! simply put, i think abortion is horrible and i would never want that if it was mine, but i dont think i could ever support an outright ban. EDIT: i think the poll #'s would look alot different if you had put more options in there, like "only support in case of rape or incest" or "i think 3rd trimester should be banned".
And therein lies the rub. It is an individual choice that, depending upon your beliefs and the timing, impacts another individual.
I was born to a mother that was stereotypically likely to abort, and am adopted. I think that abortion is taking the life of another human being in all cases. It should only be legal when the choice is between the life of the mother and the life of the child. Quality of life abortions are unethical and should be illegal.
depending on the situation... have you guys watched the movie, The Island?.. yes it sounds like a sexy movie especially that scarlet j is there but it's an interesting story and it's somehow relevant to this topic.
why does michael bay get to keep on making movies? i guess pearl harbor sucked...just a little bit more than i missed you
I used to be against abortion.. it's easy to say from a 'moral' stance But things quickly change when you get put on the spot.. like when my gf made a ****ing mean pregnant joke on me. btw, I never realized the face existed before now..
Years ago, Bill Clinton said three things about abortion - it should be legal, it should be safe, and most importantly it should be rare. I wish democrats would stress the last two points more often. Abortion just won't disappear if we banned. We'd have more of the backalley abortions or cruise ship abortions and what not, all of which are more unsafe and deadly to the parent. If one is determined to get an abortion, she will find a way to get that done. And finally, abortion should be a rarity. Protecting a right to abortion does not imply unlimited use or sanction of the practice. The Supreme Court did a good job of rolling back parts of Roe in Planned Parenthood v. Casey that were probably unecessary and presented tough ethical questions. We should encourage safe sex practices, education on adoption etc.. to limit the amount of abortions and maybe we should even limit when an abortion should take place (i.e. a partial birth abortion ban w/ a health exception)
