http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2004/football/nfl/11/16/bc.fbn.mnf.apology.ap/index.html NEW YORK (AP) -- ABC apologized Tuesday for a steamy intro to "Monday Night Football" after receiving complaints from viewers and the NFL. The spot featured a naked Nicollette Sheridan jumping into the arms of Terrell Owens. Before the Philadelphia-Dallas game, ABC showed Owens and Sheridan in an empty locker room in an attempt to spoof the network hit "Desperate Housewives." Sheridan, who stars in the show, was wearing only a towel and provocatively asked Owens to skip the game for her. After she dropped her towel, he agreed to be late for the contest and hugged her. Then the shot panned out to two more stars of "Desperate Housewives," Teri Hatcher and Felicity Huffman, watching the scene unfold on a television and commenting on desperate women. "We have heard from many of our viewers about last night's MNF opening segment and we agree that the placement was inappropriate," ABC said in a statement. "We apologize." The NFL called the intro "inappropriate and unsuitable for our 'Monday Night Football' audience." "While ABC may have gained attention for one of its other shows, the NFL and its fans lost," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said. ----------------------- Give me a break....
If I were a Fox executive, I would be thinking how on earth we could be losing the sex/football angle that CBS and ABC have capitalized on. I mean we invented sexual bad taste. We have football too. I guess having a sexy weather girl wasn't enough. what do we do to regain our stature among these other sleazy networks trying to steal our thunder?
The irony here is that on the link you posted... there is a huge ad for Cialis that appears to have 2 naked adults in a shower.
I saw this last night and thought nothing of it until a co-worker mentioned that the NFL was up in arms about it about an hour ago. I can see why the NFL would be upset, given their hardline stance in the past, but it wasn't bad at all. The only bad part was T.O.'s acting skills, or lack thereof.
She was clearly not naked enough. I demand a retraction with full nakedness. Someone has to be the devils advocate.
I saw the replays, but as someone said, is this really any worse than the countless viagra/cialis/whatever ads they blare during the games? The innuendo of a woman dropping her towel is different than the innuendos of erectile dysfunction in what way? Besides, it would have been better with Eva WhateverHerLastNameIs.
Screwed up priorities...I mean you could make the argument that children watch football to some extent...but I mean they could get to see a Joe Theisman leg snapping or a Darryl Stingley Paralization hit. But thats America for you...we are pretty puritanical about sex.
It really wasn't all that exciting. Oooh. Nicolette Sheridan drops a towel and pretends to be standing naked in front of TO. They've been playing it on Sportscenter all day today.
Saw the screen caps in the Philly paper this morning: http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/sports/football/10192764.htm
Here you go http://www.wfaa.com/perl/common/video/wmPlayer.pl?title=www.wfaa.com/041115_2000mnfopen_wz.wmv They are basically making a really big deal out of nothing.
That is pretty weak, hell ive seen worse on PBS, Discovery Channel, and MTV. NFL needs to chill, the world needs to chill, and Trey Parker and Matt Stone needs to make a parody of this on South Park
Can anyone get it in a format that it can be downloaded to keep? I tried locating it in my Internet cache, and it came up w/ a 9K file that led to the site instead.
