ABC 13 just said that Jerome Mathis was injured in a motorcylce accident. Good news is that he was released from Ben Taub hospital and he only suffered burns. Mathis needs to grow up. I heard John McClian says last week that he and new WR coach Kyle Shanahan are not seeing eye to eye already.

Mathis gives the best field position in the NFL and him risking his life on a motorcycle is just plain stupid. You would think some players would learn after Winslow did that last season.

Unbelievable, I was already disappointed when I read Shanahan was having trouble with Mathis. But now he got hurt riding a motorcycle?

I know he wasn't serious hurt but do these guys not learn from Winslow and Jay Williams? These are some of the most talented athletes in the world, they can have it all, I just don't see why you would risk it.

Too bad if he's already conflicting with the new coach. It would be sweet for Mathis to develop into a serious 3rd receiver because of his speed. Oh well.

I would imagine, much like baseball and basketball, that players are forbidden to ride motorcycles in their contracts, right? Will Mathis be fined for this by the Texans?

Mathis is awesome as a return guy, but I don't believe he'll develop into a 3rd receiver. There are a lot of fast return specialists who have never developed into productive receivers, and I think he'll fit into that. But as great as he was returning the ball, I don't care if he develops into a good receiver.

Man, why can't they give up a few things like riding motorcycles when they have the opportunity to be stars and earn lots of $$$$$.

I don't think motorcycle clauses are automatic in contracts? I think it's up to the team and the player.

Well, yeah, nothing is really standard when it comes to contracts. It's all negotiated, but I understood the "dangerous activities" clauses to be pretty typical for all sports. Jeff Kent had one, Lance Berkman had one, Jay Williams had one...but I'm not so sure if I remember any from football.

    Anyone surprised?

If I was a Texans WR, I also wouldn't listen to Shanahan. Shanahan is a kid. He is a little more helpful coaching wise to Mathis than the guy who mixes the Gatorade.

So he shouldn't listen to his coaches. I mean Kubiak is older than Mathis and I would think he (Kubiak) approved or hired Shanahan so why shouldn't Mathis listen to him?

Or does this have to do Vince and your hope to rejoin the Oiler family?

I haven't heard anything about AJ having problems or even veteran Moulds w/ Shanahan. He maybe young but Kubiak still hired him and he will be the coach. And it's not like Mathis is a stud WR right now, if he's not careful, he won't even be returning kicks for us.

It has nothing to do with Vince.

You know Shanahan played for UT, too.

It has more to do with Daddy hooking him up and being unqualified right now to teach/critique.

Anyone who picks Reggie Bush as a running back for their team will NOT use Reggie Bush as their return man. Talk to me when Bush plays his first NFL game and he returns his first kick. It will not be in his first season. I can BET on that.
