AB may be smaller and weaker than alston but he has the ability to do something rafer cant and thats close games. If you pay attention to all those games where we gave up big leads all that was due to alstons lack of execution at the end. Ive always said aaron should close games bc rafer would always seem to get nervous when the game counted.(as far as making the right play or creating his own shot)
I find it amazing that Lowry has made more free throws than Rafer has attempted while playing so many fewer minutes. I had no idea he got to the line that often
They didn't have Jason Terry and Dirk had one of his worst games of the season, and we were at home. This game came down to the final possessions, and if we weren't as fortunate, these Brooks, Lowry > Alston threads would not have been created.
I can't say Alston is a good PG for our system because he can't shoot...and that alone offsets all the positives that he brings since Yao is our foundation. You can't expect to win with your PG shooting under 40%....you just can't....
well really you need a PG that can hit 3 pointers. Those are pretty rare though. At least Lowry can make 2 pointers though.
Jack-up 3s that missed and resulted in long rebounds is worse than a TO as they always lead to fast breaks and 2 points on the other side of the court.
Its not really just his shooting either. His overall scoring ability is bad. He isnt quick enough to get past his man and create space for himself, he's not an explosive leaper so he struggles finishing around the basket, hes a really bad shooter off the dribble, and his catch and shoot is inconsistant as well. Rafer is a low end PG offensively, and he was playing way too many minutes...Our offense suffered because of it. I'm very glad to see him move on, and im looking forward to Brooks' development.
