I think that's fair, although we've definitely needed team effort to win games, so it's not like he's carrying the team. But he IS the leading scorer, right? And he has single handedly closed some games for us this season.
Yes, he might be our franchise player THIS year. But, he is not the FRANCHIZE.... yet. He will be our 2nd/3rd scoring option next year IF Yao's healthy. He has to learn how to make good post entry passes, I'm sure he will. He will average 15-20 ppg, with Martin probably averaging 18-23 ppg, and Yao 15-20 ppg as well. I like next year's team.
Is there another player on the team that we are building around for the foreseeable future? Obviously not taking into account free agency since we can know nothing about that right now.
Brooks is definitely the face of the franchise this season, but Yao is still the franchise player until he retires. I could see Brooks solidifying his role as our star player down the road, though, alongside Martin.
He has the potential to be a franchise player, but you can't tell from now, still he needs to work alot on his game, but he has the potential.
I this his perfect role is as a 6th man on a strong team. Something like Bobby Jackson in his prime with Sacramento.
You are seriously underrating Bobby Jackson. He averaged 20 points on 50% FG, 40% 3pt, 4 rebounds, 4 assists when he had the chance to start for the Kings in 2002-2003 due to Mike Bibby's injury. If anything, Bobby Jackson in his prime was a little better than current AB.
I think he's fine as a starter. Granted, I'd feel better about saying this if we had a Grant Hill/Pippen/T-Mac type of passing-wing on this team. But Adelman's offense doesn't require a lot of passing skills from the PG. For example, Mike Bibby's assist numbers went down when he went to Sacramento. Because the important passes were from Divac and Webber. My biggest problem with him is defense, especially alongside Martin. Which is why I've been so enamored with Bosh or drafting Cousins as possible offseason acquisitions. Brooks is fine as long as our interior defense is among the best.
Defense and decision making. His Ast/TO ratio is way too low for a Championship level PG. RA's system doesn't require a traditional PG, but a smart PG will make the system look much better.
He is the "franchise" player for the team this season But I don't like that phrase, there are really only 5-7 true "franchise" players in the NBA
What exactly is the definition of a franchise player? To me, it is the MVP of that team. Aaron Brooks is NOT the MVP of this team.
