Okay, since graduating from UT last May, I've been employed at an Austin-area credit union as a teller. In the past, we've had gimmick promotions like us having to wear toy binoculars to "watch out for low rates" and santa hats to promote "Holiday Loans." Well our newest promotion started today, and the getup that they have us in is absolutely humiliating. Right now, we're promoting "Low Home Equity Loan Rates" in order for us to do that however, our marketing director thought it would be a good idea to dress up all the staff in a Construction Worker's outfit, including: Fake Tape Measure, Bright Orange Road Vests, and worst of all. . . freakin' Hard Hats! We've already had a few part-time employees walk out, after refusing to wear the garb, and I am seriously contemplating whether or not I really need this job that bad. Member after member have walked in and just busted out laughing. What makes it worse is that today is the beginning of a two-month long promotion, meaning I'm going to have to wear this crap for the next two months. Any of you guys had similar experiences? What did you do? Anyway, I just needed a place to vent, and seriously, where better than CF.NET? -Turbo
If it pays well I'd do it if you can find another job that pays you the same or whatever then quit I've never experienced anything like this before...it would be weird for the customers as well I bet
I'm laughing so hard I am in tears... I once took a job as a bank teller for Woodforest National Bank inside a Wal-Mart store... I had filled out all the necessary paperwork and was excited at the opportunity since I had worked retail up until that point... Before I was about to leave she gave me my schedule and she told me that they were running a promotion the following week that would require that I wear pajamas to work... I couldn't believe it...after some careful thinking over the weekend, I called her Monday morning and told her that I decided to not take the job after all and that another opportunity arose over the weekend... With that said, I can't imagine having to wear a construction outfit...
Here's a letter that one of my co-workers submitted upon his resignation: Getting more pathetic by the second. . . -Turbo
Sounds like the Marketing Director is a r****d. If I walked in my bank and saw you wearing that getup, I would laugh my ass off. Why don't the Marketing guy walk in with a strap-on and promote how he sticks it to his tellers? Customer don't key in to that crap. At least I don't. By the way the toy binoculors statement reminded me of something. That's too F'n high!!!
I don't get it. What does home equity loans have to do with construction workers? ..seems like weird, random marketing to me.
You can save the outfit and go with some friends as the Village People for Halloween. They are saving you the cost of a costume.
I dont know about ya'll, but if I walked into my bank and people were ALWAYS in some kinda weird outfit like you talk of I would take my money to a real bank... If they dont take the little things for real, how do I know my money is going to be?? If I were you I would WALK out...
