No, this thread is not about relieving one's self,

I'm wondering about what multiple of one's body weight is considered "good" for squatting w/barbells.

Bench press i can probably about do my own body weight 4-5 times (170) - though I've never been that strong on top and it took work just to get there - fortunately I had an insane Dominican trainer yelling at me for a few months last fall.

Just wondering what a respectable squat range shoudl be to aim for, I have little experience doing leg stuff, only did it a bit with the trainer.

start light and work your way up until you find a weight ur comfortable with...dont over do and dont worry about looking week squating just 25 lbs on each side...your knees can get really ****ed up if you over due it...

eh I can probably do more than that, used to do a bunch of sets of 130 mixed w/ dumbbell lunges a few mnths ago so I think I could at least start there, I've always had a fairly powerful set of quads and arse even w/o trying too much. Just wondering what a good goal would be to try to aim for.

Form is more important than weight. In fact, form is everything when you're squatting.

Proper form in a nutshell: keep your feet shoulder length apart, keep your back as straight as possible and basically your goal should be to stick your ass out as far as you can when you're doing the actual squat itself.

As for what's a "good" weight to squat, that's entirely up to you. In my college track & field prime I could do over twice my body weight. I was a sprinter so leg power and strength was obviously a big issue for me. It's not anymore and won't be an issue to you either so it all really depends on personal preference. It's always better to go maybe a step or two below your goal weight with more reps than to try to overshoot the runway doing low reps of a weight you aren't comfortable with.

It all depends on how much you weigh. You should definitely squat more than you bench. Personally, I always shot for 100lbs more than my bench. My bench was 300lbs and my squat was 405lbs. Here is a site that gives the standards that you should shoot for.

I've always considered a good mark for strength was benching my body weight 10 times. Maybe you should try some of these: :D

So this is pretty funny... I've always had weak knees so I never really liked to do squats.

I decided to start doing them on Monday.

I can bench my body weight (190) like 11-12 times. I tried squatting 135... could only do it like 10 times. Now my quads are still sore.

    Very unbalanced...

You're not really benching your own weight on that image. You have it resting and you're actually doing a "lever" instead of a PUSH.

wesnesked, are you a woman?

    Sam,

If this is your preparation for the endtimes, I am not impressed.
If this is your preparation for an enhanced urban bachelor lifestyle, I think your time could be better spent.
If this is your preparation to patrol the paint in a hack game of weekly basketball with other old guys, I applaud you sincerely and loudly.
If this is your preparation for pay-per-view wrestling with basso, where can we sign up?

the first time I read this, I thought you mean you could bench 4-5 times your own body weight (680-850lbs). Then you said you were never that strong, so I had to re-read.

I can't believe no one has said this yet...

I squatted so much after lunch today. I took a picture and emailed it to all my friends.

Didnt want to make a new thread -

I get real sore after working out, cant hit the gym again for like 3 days. I have been going to the gym for like almost 2 months though now. Do i need more protien or need to improve my metabolism or what? My progress is kind of slow too.
