8 for 19 free-throw shooting by Francis, Cato, Rogers, and Barkley cost us a regulation win in Vancouver.

Missed free throws by Francis and Cato helped cost us a regulation win in Portland.

    Rockets' team free-throw average: 72%.

    Comets' team free-throw average: 82%.

    Cynthia Cooper's free-throw percentage last season: 89% (204 of 229).

Still no place for a woman in the NBA?

    Will,

    Good point!!! [IMG]

Would it be the best-ever backcourt in the NBA history to pair up Stevie and Cynthia? It's gonna be SCARY! Hardaway-Kidd combo would be no match! HEHE!

I would trade Walt Williams for Cynthia Cooper in a heartbeat.

Good point. The folded Women's ABL ball was not.

We would like to get rookie Francis on the break for some easy scoops in the first quarter...

Van wouldn't like this trade. Who is Walt Williams to be equal the 3-time WNBA top scorer, 3-time WNBA Finals MVP, and 2-time MVP? It will take Walt + Drew + Bullard. [IMG]

I know Cabbage really wants a athletic type of Small Forward who can start. Well how about trading mobley for tina thompson?

    Good deal..

Yall are kidding but the Comets are a true powerhouse championship team. And Cynthia Cooper is one of the greats. She does exactly what she wants on that court and when she wants to do it.

Don't leave out Sheryl Swoopes. She practices with men and has a good 3-pointer from NBA range. Yes the ball is smaller. Men are also closer to the goal in height for easier close-in shots!

It is a complete joke that professional basketball players can't hit more than 80% of their free throws. It is a freaking free throw, guys. A guy like Shaq just pisses me off. You are getting paid $10's of millions to play a child's game, but you don't even have the commitment to put in a little extra time to work on a free throw. Sickening.

The ladies work on their fundamental bball skillz while the men are busy working on their next highlight reel dunk, witch is a damm shame.

For instance all the missed layup's lately would have been unheard of ten yrs ago.

I like this thread. [IMG] It just goes to show the problem with (men's) pro basketball these days. They're getting paid much more than the women and put in less work. As long as they're good enough to stay in the league and are making their millions, what do they have to prove to anybody? What is left to work for? A championship, of course, but many players only want one if it comes automatically, without hours of extra work and dedication on their part.

Their "job" is a joke. They don't even like to practice more than once a day, for a few hours at most. And that's only during the regular season. Most of us fans, for whom it's a significant expense to even buy tickets to their games, work day in and day out and don't have all this money thrown at us. Well, if that's the way it's going to be, OK, but they'd better do something to earn it. Especially things like free throw shooting. You can practice that at home, by yourself, anytime. There are probably people right here on this BBS that shoot better than Shaq. It's been agreed lately that NBA shooting percentage and game quality have gone down because of players trying to make the highlight reels and not working on the fundamentals of the game (or on their teamwork). This can start in college, which is why women's basketball is thought to be a better "quality" game. Less physical and more finesse. It's not just banging bodies against each other like in football.

As a group, we may never have the raw physical strength men have. (individual women, however, are a different story) And women may never be paid as much to play basketball. But they are putting the men to shame right now, simply because they actually want to play the game. Go Comets...

All I have to say is when you're able to play basketball like some of these guys, take flights day-in and day-out like these guys, be away from families like these guys, and make money for YOUR COMPANY like these guys... then you can say their job is a joke. Until then... it's a game in which we the viewers dictate the price and salaries. We (or at least a certain percentage of us) are willing to pay for the tickets, the shoes, the jerseys, the caps, etc. to support their salaries which in turn allows their salaries to get driven up.

As for the women putting the guys to shame... well... we've had those men vs. women battles before, and I'm sure not going to start one again. [IMG]

    Go Comets, Go Rockets.

I am one of the worst free throw shooters you will ever see but I still make it more than 40% thats a joke for shaq to regress each year instead of progressing in Ft shooting. Primetime and BigBoy can vouch for my horrendous Freethrow shooting.

The ball is smaller and the ball is not heavy.

The ball being smaller doesn't always make for easier free throws. Many centers have problems with free throwing because their hands are too big. It's like trying to shoot free throws with a grape fruit. Of course, some centers can work through it, but it is a lot harder for them than say PGs.

BTW ScarFace, how TALL are you? Also, from what I have heard, Shaq nails most of his free throws in practice, but bricks it in the game as if the rim is moving.

A woman's place is at the line, in a WNBA game.

Until Cynthia Cooper can do everything else well enough to play in the NBA, I don't think her free-throw shooting is valuable enough to warrant a roster spot.
