i know we can just put shane or ron on him, but overall, from the second he steps on the court, how should defend him. after watching the lakers jazz series, i realized how good kobes jump shot has become, he pretty much used his jumper to score even with a hand in his face and no matter how hard jazz played defense. i remember he did that against us during regular season and scored 2 3pt jumpers in a row and i doubt shane can do any better job at defending him. so my solution is, do give him any space to shot, let him drive the whole game, let him battle with our interior defense, and let him try to convert tough layups. obviously we have to let him get the ball most of the time just as much as bRoy last 5 games, and concentrate on defending all the other players. we ll wear kobe down the stretch, maybe not in one game, but game 3 n 4, n 5 n 6.
First off, there is no way to STOP an elite scorer/player in the league you can only slow them down or contain them which is what Shane and Ron will do. But the only way you can honestly stop Kobe is to be just as alert as Kobe and deny him position. We also have to rotate very quickly to stop him and trap him and force his teammates to beat us and not himself. I suggest using the same strategy the Celtics used to contain Kobe and the entire Lakers team. We have Yao in the middle so Kobe won't score that many points inside the paint and finish all the time. He has to beat us from the perimeter, because think about it. Would you rather have a player score a layup? or a 22 ft jumper? Pretty easy for me.
I think Rick Adelman should let Ron Artest guard him because Kobe scored on him when Artest is not guarding or Artest was gambling trying to steal in which case he was out of position. So i don't know how people say Artest got beat in the last game and i was surprised Kobe say he kicks Artest ass. Well, did he really get beat?? Artest wasn't even guarding him most of the time...it was Shane!! People again tend to exaggerate the situation and based Kobe's dominant by how much points he had overall but never analyze how much points Kobe had WHILE RON IS ACTUALLY GUARDING HIM!! I think Ron will pose more of a problem for Kobe than Shane. Shane tends to play it safe and never really go for the block EVEN if he's in the position to block the shot...he tends to shield their vision almost all the time. Also, unlike Roy, Kobe likes to separate himself and go one on one like post up. This is where we have the advantage with Artest and Shane. Not that Kobe won't score, but both are good at one on one rather than playing pick n roll defense in which ROY did almost 100% of the time.
would u loose more energy from driving to the basket for layup and must be careful not to get blocked, or shooting a jumper? for kobe, jumpers r the easiest things to do, and his 30 remember?
Only reason why most people including myself would prefer Shane on Kobe is because Kobe is more of a jump shooter than a slasher like a LeBron James. Also, if you remember last year when we took out the Lakers in our 22nd win I believe. Shane played the best defense you possible could on Kobe Bryant. Ron Artest does not put hands in people's faces like Shane does. Artest is a brute strength defender who takes gambles. Kobe is more finesse than strength and Battier is the better finesse defender and from watching Roy play he's a very balanced scorer he uses both strength and finesse so that's why Artest defended him well. That being said, Shane is a better defender on Kobe. Not to mention Battier is more active and focus at defending than Artest is.
Kobe is just too good. If he is on fire in the early stages of the game, prepare for a long hard game. He'll score all night. We have to play hard from the opening tip on Kobe. Other way is, bribe the LA chef, and poison Kobe's food.
To add to that, Shane Battier is a much better defender at the pick n roll as well. Shane usually does a good job hustling and being able to put a hand on Kobe's face despite the pick. Artest is the better post defender than Battier and that's it. Battier is a better defender against Kobe than Artest is. You are going to expect a lot of Pick n rolls from the Lakers. A lot....
you let kobe have his in the 1st half, sticking closely to his teammates the whole time. if you ever watched kobe play, he looks to get his teammates involved in the 1st half, and plays pretty passively. then in the 2nd half, with all the energy he's conserved, he lets it all loose and goes black mamba mode. this is the time where you double kobe and trap him at half court forcing him to give up the ball to his teammates, and you dare his teammates to beat you. by this time, hopefully they'll be cold, and you have a chance to limit kobe's effectiveness.
Kobe is a perfect attacker. He can attack our basket in different way. So only battier and Artest can't stop him. Just the overall defense can make good effect. Finally we should pay attention to other lakers'player .They are dangerous.they play good enough .
I agree 100% this is probably the best way to stop him. It's pretty similar to what the Celtics did in the Finals. Not so sure about them letting Kobe have his though.
Hard to stop. Must make him work on both sides of the court. Shane or Artest must take him down low and make him work on the D side of the court.
Actually I think it's more easier to cut Kobe off from his teammates than shut down Kobe. so just let him shot more.
The brutal truth is that we can't stop him. We just have to make him work for every shot and hope in the end that we can somehow put up enough points to overcome him.
