Apparently more than a dozen of these have taken place. These racist Blacks would approach White or White-looking people in downtown Denver and they would proceed to beat them down and rob them while shouting racial epithets http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/21868721/detail.html
that's terrible I'm surprised I have heard nothing about it on the local news considering I live there. However, the last time I was downtown I did see a large group of about 40 black people crowded around together yelling at stuff. I guess I just was not paying much attention.
It's almost as though conservatives make things up, repeat them over and over again, and then try to blame liberals for these views that no one holds. Oh wait, it's not almost. It is.
I think he was asking why is this in D&D? Unless there's something to debate about vicious hate crimes?
not really new stuff. I was jumped twice growing up in Houston, both times by groups of black kids..and for no reason other than I was white. Racism definitely goes both ways. Yes, it is a hate crime.. Unfortunately, some places don't see it that way. Unless they've changed the laws in Texas in the last few years, it isn't considered a hate crime because it was against white people.
Can you point to any hate crime statute in the country that exempts crimes against white people? Texas certainly does not.
Growing up as an Asian American, I find ignorance and racism is not unique to a single race, but some we as a society needs to try to do better. However, I think the reason racism from white gain more press/coverage/outrage is the powers in this country, as an institution overall, is still controlled by whites. You would scold a 8 year old for behaving badly and striking an adult, but you'd definitely be more angry at an adult for striking a child. That said, I do still see us as a country taking steps (and compared to other countries and time in history, giant steps) to become a more integrated and accepting nation. The last election gave me hope, not because of who Obama is or what policy he'd inaction, but how him being elected reflect the changing attitude of this country in general. This is why this video gave me the chills the first time I heard it.
It's written in his paranoid mind. That's the problem when you post stories like this... it's one short step to wingnutville's anectodal stories on the under appreciated evils of black on white racism while displaying a constant, willful ignorance of the comparatively overwhelming number of stories of white on everybody racism.
The original early 90's wording of the law in Texas (and some other places) was so vague in definition, that it was extremely easy to exclude caucasians and gays. Again, this was a long time ago and the wording may have been changed since then, but I do know that the late 90's bill proposed by Democrats would've changed it. Unfortunately, Bush was opposed to protecting Gays and wouldn't sign the bill. Not sure what has changed with it since. It was a good idea of a law - just written poorly.
Wow, you don't know me at all. Wingnut? Paranoid? hardly. I'm simply saying there is racism on ALL SIDES. Yes, there are many, many, far too many racist white people out there, but as a society, we tend to ignore racism from anyone other than the majority.
I've already provided reason for that but will explain a little more. Things like Slavery, Jim Crow, indentured servitude, and hell trail of tears along with the ghettos of America kinda tip the scale more in favorite of one race than others. It's the sensitivity to that which causes the difference in responses.
