    Greetings Audi/Video Geeks of Clutchfans,

Please help my this humble newb with a possible tuner purchase.

7 years ago 6.1 was the thing so I bought a Denon 6.1 tuner. 6 months ago I installed 6 in ceiling speakers. As with any tuner that is 7 years old it is missing hdmi, up converting, iphone integration etc. So I may be buying a new tuner within a year. Here is what I want to do.

I want to keep the 6.1 setup to make use of the 6 speakers in the ceiling
I want to add a speaker or two to the kitchen to listen to music when eating with the family.

I know almost every tuner allows multi zone audio. However they often use that zone to also be the 6th or 7th speakers. With my current tuner I could hookup another speaker but if I had 6.1 going I would have to have always have audio in the kitchen and that would annoy my wife if it wasn’t wanted at the moment (TV and movie dialogue).

Do I have any other options except going to 5.1 in the living room (leaving the rear center channel idle) and installing two speakers in the kitchen?

I am not looking to spend a grand on tuner but see myself in the 400-600 range.

    Thanks for all your help.

Gee, thanks for that confidence, man.

I kid (but next time, say that he can also try somewhere else aside from us).

When we decided to buy a surround system for our game room, we bought a 6.1 system a while back. I have no speakers in the ceiling, only surround. I was wondering why all your speakers were in the ceiling instead of "around" the seating area, but I guess that's not something to discuss. Mine doesn't have HDMI or the iPhone stuff like you say.

I think that on my receiver this feature is called a "ZONE" setting, which I can do with the remote's SETUP program. I can have speakers A, speakers B, and speakers A+B on at any time. I guess I can add speakers say, for example, for the kitchen and the game room separately. Your "other room" set up (as my remote calls it), could be your B zone where you would plug in the B speakers on the back. The back of my receiver has the clear labeling of B so I can leave the 6.1 speakers as A and plug 2 more as B and send audio to one, two, or both zones.

I don't think I can send 6.1 completely to the other room, but just left and right channel, and I guess I need speakers with mid-range, tweet, and subwoofer within them. My manual also says that selecting zone B will mute speakers in the main room if set up this way.

Did you consult your manual and your manufacturer's web site for help on this? You might want to also call them for Technical Support. I am sure they are glad to help peeps with advanced features.
