No, Simms isn't granted a 5th year of eligibility... but rather OU looks to be solid as hell as far as the upcoming college bball season is concerned. Their tough/non-chalant style reminds me eerily of the 99-00 Michigan State team that won the title that year. If OU can take care of business on the gridiron and hardwood, could they have football and basketball titles in the same year? When was the last time that has happened? If ever?
I don't think UT fans hate OU basketball as much as they hate OU football and just OU in general...... I know of several people actually rooting for OU in the tourney last year. kidrock: I know you follow recruiting......what do you know about Larry Turner? Is he another Jabahri Brown, with no offense?
mduke, the Big 12 is slowly becoming one of the elite basketball conferences in the nation. Look at the coaches and the talent they've assembled: Texas: Rick Barnes Oklahoma: Kelvin Sampson Kansas: Roy Williams Missouri: Quinn Snyder Ok. State: Eddie Sutton Texas Tech: Bob Knight (ughhh) That's some top notch talent, and all 6 teams will make the tourney each year. Big 12 basketball will be tons of fun. I graduate in December, but I'll be working in Austin. BTW, OU has some badass recruits coming their way soon...
BTW, OU has some badass recruits coming their way soon... Which ones? Talking about this year's class? (Bookout, Alexander, Turner, etc.)? Bookout will be a stud.....was POY in Oklahoma, in Oklahoma's best recruiting class in a LONG time. 6'8, 265 pounds....as much of a can't-miss as you can get in college.
i don't get it, why did OU have to get so badass in bball and FB as soon as i started going to UT (3rd year now). it ****ing sucks. they'll probably win football this year, only miami had a chance to stop them and now they don't look as good. they'll probably pull off basketball unless i get lucky with another indiana hits every 3 they throw up type game against them. at least aaron mcghee is gone, he was so damn hard to guard. and now kidrock informs us that they are recruiting real good. dammit. somebody better stop OU from winning some NC's or i'm gonna be pissed.
Don't worry, word is that Kenneth Paulino and Brad Buckman (McDonald's AA) are every bit as good as advertised. Combine that with the group of stud juniors in Mouton, Boddicker, Thomas, and Ivey, and TJ, we can compete with anyone.
Paulino...? Only Buckman is likely to provide some instant help for UT. Paulino may become a good player 3-4 years from now, but he won't really help UT all that much this year. UT can only hope Buckman turns out to be better than Boddicker. Buckman looked pretty good though in the McD's AA game.
UT's non-conference schedule ain't that tough. I can't decide if that's good or bad. The only tough games they have are against Arizona (road), and some tournament in NY I think where they start off with Georgia. I guess that's good....last year they lost a few out of conference and that hurt their ranking. The only thing is will it be enough to prepare them for Big 12 play? Also I don't get why everyone has Kansas so high. Gooden was a HUGE part of that team, plus they lost Boshi. I saw an ESPN poll where they ask who the best player in college will be this year, and Collison and Hinrich are both choices. Huh? Is the draft going to totally suck next year or what?
Kidrock, You must not have seen the same Paulino I saw in the orange-white game, he has skills and can stroke the j pretty well. He looked better than Buckman for sure. So I expect both to be worthwhile contributors in the future, and yes I know don't get too hyped up on a scrimmage but Paulino was impressive, as were JT and Mouton.
It's never good in college bball to have a soft non-conf sched, especially in a conf like the Big 12. Will they be in a for a rude awakening, once conf play begins? Also, the selection committee goes out of its way to help teams with strong SOS, and bring down teams with weak SOS. I agree on Kansas. They will need Aaron Miles and that PF whose name I am forgetting, to step up. They both were highly-touted in HS, and must play up to their potential.
Wayne Simien is who you are thinking of. I was really impressed with him last year...for a freshman he already had plenty of bulk, good touch around the basket and can even face up and shoot from 15 feet. Not near as quick as Gooden, but more physical. Collison and him will be punishing people down low. I think Kansas is always rated pretty high, more so because of Williams' system rather than their personnel, and rightfully so. When you run 10 guys out there and get up and down, it's pretty easy to wear down opponents who aren't stacked with talent. As far as OU goes...being a UT guy it's hard to say this, but there isn't a pair of coaches in the world that I have more respect for than Stoops and Sampson. Both just solid coaches and solid guys, especially Sampson.
