Well thats why I said I wouldnt mind Tinsley in a backup role to replace Mooch. Regardless, Tinsley, is a career 38% shooter, 25% from the 3 pt line. Hes not even a good FT shooter (70%).

Again, I wish I knew why he doesnt get backup minutes ahead of Brewer and Johnson. However, players dont get left sitting on the bench with a whole bunch of DNP-CDs for no reason.

I just will never understand why so many posters feel Tinsley is the answer to our problems. He isn't and would probably create more problems than he would solve.

If you start Tinsley, then there is no way you can have Cato on the court at the same time. I mean, could you imagine a worse PnR combo than Cato and Tinsley?? *cringe* Defenses would laugh when they are sagging off daring either one of them to shoot a jumper.

Greap points as always GATER. Here's my take on them:

    1) I meant Francis was cheaper per year, but on this count you're correct.

    2) If Steve Francis was available in 2005, don't you think they'd murder to sign him? In 2005, Cato will only have one year left on his contract, making him a prime candidate to bring in a damn good player from a team that needs 9 or 10M in cap space. They can even acquire a TE for him like we did for Rice. He'll be an asset while they're competing and an asset when they're ready to re-build.

    3) I've wondered about that as well. But I think the Blazers would deal McInnis at one year and 3M if thry thought he'd cause trouble, right? My expectations and hopes are that everyone will be proffessional about it.

    4) Hell no. Portland can view Steve as a major franchise player, because he'll be able to play HIS brand of basketball for them. Him and Randolph would mean Portland have landed an already SOLID core, and they can still acquire some pieces with a McInnis+TE deal. They'd still have the means to get big Z, and that would eat into their capspace, but then they'd be done re-building. Something like Dale Davis + maybe Patterson, Anderson, or the TE woul net Z IMO.

Rasheed Wallace alone, at this point, is not equal value for Steve Francis. His value has never been lower, and while Steve's value is sinking slowly, he's still up there. We only need to look at the facts: 26yr old All Star (2 years running) who's tied up long term on a deserved contract and who's only brush with the law was a waived DUI charge, am I correct?

With Steve Francis putting some asses in seats (being an All Star), Portland will be ecstatic to bring their fan base back.

In my eyes, it is a HUGE slam dunk for Portland. From our side, this is basically a "I'm fed up" deal. We're doing them a huge favour. I don't think any other team will send similar value their way.. K-Mart will have to be signed and traded, or packaged with their only big contract: Kidd. Nothing on the Blazers roster is worth Kidd AND K-Mart. Besides, K-Mart plays Randolph's position, and Kidd has been charged with beating his wife - major no-no.

Blazers won't do better, and IMO, this is takign a huge risk from our side.

    Dale Davis/Kelvin Cato/Boumtje Boumtje
    Randolph/Cato/Patterson
    Patterson/Anderson/Qyntel
    Anderson/Francis
    Francis/McInnis

Their big contracts after this deal: Francis, Cato, Anderson. Francis and Cato, as I mentioned above, are assets. Anderson is a slightly overpaid player, but that doesn't affect our deal or their plans.

In every 3-team trade, we have to keep in mind that there should be a necessity for it.

What stops Portland fromd ealing Wallace directly for Illgauskas? Nothing. I'm sure Cleveland would rather have Wallace, even if just for cap purposes, than Cato, JJ, and the TE.

I agree. If we are talking about a Wallace for Francis trade..... If that is on the table then if I am Portland I jump at that IMMEDIATELY! I dont think the Rockets jump that quickly. Wallace's value IS at an all time low and Francis is still pretty high. While Portland wants to cut salary, they dont mind TAKING salary if they get a STAR player in return. They would do this deal. I am not sure the Rockets make this move. It seems pretty risky to me for the Rockets, especially with Wallace's act as of late.

I like Wallace's talents...but I question his work ethic and the baggage. I would have to hope that JVG + Wallace would be a good combination in which JVG would get the most out of Wallace. Of course I hoped JVG would get the most out of Griffin as well. :(

Cleveland's GM tried to make the deal for Wallace, but Cleveland’s conservative owner already nixed the deal, because he didn’t want Wallace’s attitude and the comments he recently made. So if Portland wants Z, they'll need a 3rd team.

I really don't follow this preoccupation with Wallace. He is an unrestricted FA at the end of the season. If we trade for him now, we could lose him the way Milwaukee lost Gary Payton -- with nothing to show for it. If the Rocks want him that badly, try to sign him as an FA outright. However, the only way to go after Wallace is with a sign and trade. No way do I want him unless he is committed on paper and in person.

Of course, he is always in danger of being committed anyway.:D

A better trade is Yao for Zach Randolph.

The Rockets would then get a dominant low post scorer and someone with the quickness to play a little more outside.

    Francis
    Mobely
    Jackson
    Randolph
    Cato

    Would be an awesome lineup.

Against small teams, we could play Zach at the 5 and MoTay at the four. Very hard to stop.

Our inside production would go up and our rebounding would be better.

Defensively, we would be a little worse because Yao's size helps us inside, but we would more than make up for it by gains in team speed, quickness, and scoring ability.

CD, get on the phone and do that deal right now.

Although I know he's not going to. :(

Gary Payton was OBVIOUSLY going to leave Milwaukee. Like I mentioned before however, Wallace is almost a lock to stay here.

It's all about taking these risks. Sacramento did it with the troubled Webber, Portland with Wallace, and now the Heat are doing it with Odom (who's transforming into another Rasheed Wallace).

Wallace and Yao up front would be VERY VERY difficult to pass up for me. Let's not forget how incredible the defense would be as well with such a deal.

Milwaukee took that risk with Payton, but they did not expect him to walk

I understand your fervor to build a great front line for the Rocks. It is something I share. However, wishing and believing are not the same as making it true. Otherwise, Eddie Griffin would be blocking shots, rebounding and scoring 20+ points per game as we originally expected.

Then they are fools for thinking otherwise! Payton was not going to sit around on a bottom feeder team for the rest of his career. From the moment this was going to happen I kept hoping the Rockets would deal Mobley and Cato for Allen. The Bucks would at least have BOTH of them locked up. Mobley would take the place of Allen and Cato would have given them what they REALLY need which is an inside defensive presence.

The Bucks were toatlly fooling themselves if they thought Payton was going to finish his career there.

Allen, Murray, and Ridnour for Mason was the result of that trade. Bend over Bucks.

And we wouldn't be totally fooling ourselves thinking Wallace would stay here as Mr. Third Option at Best. From what I have seen, and I could be wrong, Wallace plays best when he views himself as Option Numero Uno.

Sane, you mentioned Wallace "is almost a lock to stay here," but you did not say why. Why?

The way people play off of Cato to double is exactly why the zone rules have decimated Jamaal Tinsley's game.

That is also why Francis' game is down this year. The zone promotes intelligence and limit individual play and penetration.
It also limits slow post up offenses unless the player moves are quick.

If we were going to trade Francis there are very few players that would be more valuable in this system.

I think Seattle could actually be a perfect trade partner if we decided to part ways with Francis.

Ray Allen would be a beast for this team with his shot selection, passing ability and his quick and amazing range of his shot.

    Some Combination of

    Francis and Change (MoTaylor) for

Ray Allen and Vladimir Radmonovic, Luke Ridnour

    would be mutually beneficial.

They have Brent Barry/Flip Murray/Radmonovic/Rashard Lewis/ Ray Allen all filling in the SG/SF mix

I think a dynamic point guard like Steve would thrive in their offense and with guys like Barry and Rashard.

    Their Lineup would be:

    Francis
    Barry/ Flip Murray
    Rashard
    MoTaylor
    James

    and ours would be:

Ridnour / Jackson(can play some) (weakest link)
    Allen/ Mobley/ Piatkowski
    Radmonovic/ Jackson/ Piatkowski
    Cato/ Radmonovic
    Yao Ming

I would probably then turn around and ship Mobley and change off for a Powerforward to a team in need of a SG like :

    Orlando (Howard/Gooden)
    Indiana (Harrington)
    Clippers ( Melvin Ely/Wilcox)

Which would give us a lineup of: (With the Clipper deal, Mobley at a great price for Ely)

    Ridnour/Jackson/Moochie
    Allen/Piatkowski/ Jackson
    Radmonovic/Nachbar
    Cato/Ely/Radmonovic
    Yao/Cato/Ely

Though we would be weak at point guard, I think we would drastically improve the flow of the game and would have dead-eye shooters that cannot be given an inch of room.

I have seen Ely play on occasion and I think him or Wilcox will be adequate replacements for the backup PF/Center spots.

I really think that this is a team fit to play the new zone rules and use the talent that we have and is more plausible than most scenarios.

I don't want a player on my team that cries because he slipped a few spots in the draft.

Maybe we can steal him next summer in a sign and trade. Can we use the trade exception in a sign and trade? If so, then we would have an advantage on other teams, because we would have to send less salary to Portland. Maybe Portland would then take pennies on the dollar (like a Mo Taylor plus the trade exception), in a sign and trade.

As for now, I like our talent. We have a young team, which needs to improve from the inside. Wait until next summer to make a big move, after JVG has a year with this team.

you've just traded away the entire team except for a guy you hope will dominate one day...thanks for setting the team back, and you'll be able to say for the next 4 years, this team is young, give them time to jell on offense etc...

Absolutely! I would not TOUCH Wallace in a Francis for Wallace trade unless it was a sign and trade deal. No WAY do we just trade Francis for Wallace without locking him up!

The only reason you trade Francis for Wallace and dont lock him up is if you think you can resign Wallace for cheap and if you dont then it is just a "salary dump." Which of course is what happened with the Bucks, they wanted the salary dump with Allen but got really screwed in the deal!
