Golden State trades: PG Avery Johnson (3.3 ppg, 0.7 rpg, 1.3 apg in 9.0 minutes) _ SG Jason Richardson (15.6 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 3.0 apg in 32.9 minutes) Golden State receives: PF Eddie Griffin (8.6 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 1.1 apg in 24.5 minutes) _ PG Moochie Norris (4.3 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 2.4 apg in 16.8 minutes) _ SG Cuttino Mobley (17.5 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 2.9 apg in 41.7 minutes) Change in team outlook: +11.5 ppg, +6.8 rpg, and +2.1 apg. Houston trades: PF Eddie Griffin (8.6 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 1.1 apg in 24.5 minutes) _ PG Moochie Norris (4.3 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 2.4 apg in 16.8 minutes) _ SG Cuttino Mobley (17.5 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 2.9 apg in 41.7 minutes) Houston receives: PG Avery Johnson (3.3 ppg, 0.7 rpg, 1.3 apg in 48 games) _ SG Jason Richardson (15.6 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 3.0 apg in 82 games) Change in team outlook: -11.5 ppg, -6.8 rpg, and -2.1 apg. TRADE ACCEPTED Due to Golden State and Houston being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. Golden State and Houston had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out unless trade exceptions were used for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Please hear me out on this one. It is a very fair trade and is good for both teams. Starting with the main reason is Griffin and Richardson. Both have put themselves in bad situation, situations that would best suit them to change teams and start over clean slate. For anyone that doesn't know Richardson is in a similar domestic charge predicment and has been openly shopped by Golden State. I love Cuttino and think he is great but his leaving might be best. Getting rid of Moochie is always good. Avery Johnson is a solid veteran backup that won't screw up and his contract expires so it's like just ridding Mooch's contract. Richardson is also younger than Cuttino. Golden State has been trying to trade Richardson and Cuttino is a great replacement and they can use a guy that scores and scores with out abandon, they don't have much fire power. Griffin gets to change up scenery which will be good for him. He will make good solid backup for Dunleavy with Troy out.
I'd love to get Avery in this backcourt. I'm not too high on Jason Richardson, but he can't be worse than Mobes, and his frame gives him the ability to be a superb defender, assuming he puts in the effort.
Screw GS, I wouldn't want the Rockets to do it. Our headcase (Griffin) and useless backup PG (Moochie, incompetent) for their headcase (Richardson) and useless backup PG (Johnson, ancient) would be a fair but unneccessary trade. Why would we throw in a 20 ppg scorer with this collection of scrubs. I have never understood this board's seemingly endless fascination with picking up useless Golden State rejects (Hughes, Jackson, Richardson ...).
