This is an honest question from a TMAC fan and someone very practical. I thumb around and read the threads and see what people say about "she-mac / me-mac" - whatever. What is it specfically (event, trait, etc.) about him that causes you haters to want him out? Here is an abbreviated version of how I understand the situation - if you have a sec, read it over - and all you wannabe experts enlighten me. - Two seasons ago, McGrady is in MVP talks as he is the catalyst behind the Rockets 22 game wins streak. The dude was awesome that year. - Last year - injured, he cant perform to everyone's (including himself) expectations. Toronto game comes around and dude can't even jump. Eventually he opts for surgery and pisses off the Rockets management for the way he communicated (or really didnt communicate) it. The way I see it, everyone in life does the best to put themselves in a position where they are able to control their fate. Case in point - His bball skills enabled him to demand big bucks and be a franchise player. Similarly, we go to school so we can get a good job and have options in life. His plan last year was to put him in a position where he wouldn't be traded, and to also fix his messed up knee so he could be the man again for the Rox. So microfracture surgery was his avenue to accomplishing this. What bonehead wouldn't play the cards the same way he did? What he did was smart... thats the way I see it. That's life. - So he's done all he can to get back. He's ahead of schedule depending on what source you read from. He speaks up about wanting to engage himself more on the team (because he is a proven allstar with skills at one point that no one on this team will Ever possess - yeah i said it) and all the haters say he's "selfish" for this. I dont get it..... So what am I missing here? Looking for a hater to convince me.... For me (a TMac Fan) theres quite a bit of gray area when it comes to our perspectives of him. You think he handled his surgery "wrongly"- I dont think so, I think he was smart about it. You think he's selfish? I think he's passionate about wanting to be back. You think he isn't Kobe? - well thats for darn sure and that ticked me off quite a few years back (lack of killer instinct, how he screams everytime he drives to the hoop to startle the refs to call a foul. But hey, Yao aint no Hakeem and I don't hate him. Anyways - tell me something good....
I think Tracy should get out of Houston. I've always had the mentality that if someone hates me, then I hate them. Everyone is all over the guy, if I was him I'd want to go play somewhere else.
He held this team hostage last season being in and out of the line up whenever he decided he could play or couldn't. the team let him do that (part of the blame goes on them), then when the team is probably actively trying to trade him, he goes on a national show to announce he's having surgery without discussing it with them? now in fairness, to me ultimately it didn't matter how this announcement came out because lets say the rockets do make a trade, he wasn't going to pass anyone's physicals. so its a moot point. most people just want this guy to understand that the team doesn't revolve around him and that includes rick adelman. some of its hate/frustration, but from my perspective, tmac just needs to learn that he isn't what he was. that's the bottom line to me.
I mean if any of you who went to one out of the two games he play in houston this season he received a very warm welcome (I was at the clippers game). Alot of people around me actually wanted him to play more minutes.
hostage as in - he told Adelman to play him / not play him? Why didn't Rick do him like he's doing now. Didn't know about the national show part... yeah thats wacksauce. agree with the "he isnt what he used to be" comment. Although being a fan i wish he had a chance to prove it.
I have followed him since his first year in the league. Any reasonable person would not be a fan of the guy after doing that. There is no specific event that made me dislike him as a Rocket. That's what some of us more educated fans have been trying to tell you nitwits. It's the sum of a career full of unfulfilled promises, quitting and whining that make us want him gone. Now, he doesn't even have the skills to make you want to forgive him for being such a loser.
The way he conducted himselft before the trade deadline last year was the clincher for me. Ok, I understand having microfracture surgery was probably a good career choice ... but it is a little fishy when he announces his season ending surgery WITHOUT CONSULTING team management, in the midst of rumors of him being traded, putting an end to any trade speculation. Remember how ticked Adelman was when he had to find out about the surgery from the media? I mean, what the **** are we as fans supposed to make of this. He quit in Orlando (consult with magic fans) and he quit in Toronto cuz he was playing in the shadow of Vince. Also the whole "It's on me." ordeal irked me as well. It's a team game.
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/ian_thomsen/02/27/weekly.countdown/index.html "I haven't been the guy who's been fortunate enough to play with Shaq, to play with Tim Duncan. I always seem to have average teams,'' he said. "You take me back in my Orlando days with Shaq? Come on, there are no questions. You take a healthy me and switch me out with Paul Pierce [on the current Celtics]? There's no question. There's definitely no question.''
TMAC SCARES MY KIDS WHEN HE FACES THE CAMERA..... THEY DONT KNOW WHAT DIRECTION HE'S FACING.. get him out of here
******* move to say it, but I'm inclined to agree with the statements. I mean read between the lines. He's saying those players are the great ones. He'd be their Pippen in essence. Right?
That's pretty wrong, but I did giggle...dammit. Are you the guy that made fun of mentally challenged people in HS? haha
He said he's had nothing but average teams? gtfo. without considering the validity of his statement, the fact that he would publicy come out and say this makes him an ass. hence the increasing tmac hate.
