"Jack Lemmon, the versatile actor and beloved star, died Wednesday evening at the USC/Norris Cancer Center in Los Angeles, California at age 76. Lemmon had a career that spanned over 50 years, starring in Some Like It Hot, The Apartment, The Days of Wine and Roses, and The China Syndrome. "Lemmon was nominated for numerous awards for excellence in his craft, including eight Academy Awards, winning two. He won an Oscar® for his lead role as Harry Stoner in 1973's Save the Tiger and for Best Supporting Actor in 1955's Mister Roberts , playing Ensign Pulver. It was a role that launched him into the public eye. He frequently starred as an Everyman, beset by the problems of the modern world, as well as his own foibles, but Lemmon never settled for a type. His range included dramas as painful as Glengarry Glen Ross and Missing and comedies as broad as Grumpy Old Men or even with Broadway roots such as The Odd Couple. In The Apartment Lemmon's character, C.C. Baxter, who is rather a sycophant, is exhorted by his neighbor, to straighten up and act like a mensch, a human being. Above all things Jack Lemmon was a mensch." 3 days from now will mark the year anniversary of Walter Matthau's death. Very eerie how that works out... RIP Jack ------------------ This post contains no smilies, you must judge my seriousness on your own...
He and Walter Mathau made one hell of a team. RIP Jack. ------------------ I would rather have Mo Taylor and his love of the Rockets than Webber and his love of our money.
