A reason to support President Obama 1. Many people have said that President Obama is void of experience in being able to solve the problems we are facing, in fact some hold the opinion that the President Obama portrayed by those who fanatically think he can save us all doesn’t even exist. Just because many people have put their hope in him proves nothing to us who haven’t seen one reason to believe he can benefit our lives. But unless we give President Obama a chance and our support we are taking away his opportunity to show us what he can accomplish. Opposing President Obama only puts us on the side of doubt and fear. Giving President Obama a sincere opportunity to prove himself to us all requires us to put our past feelings behind us. We must take a step of faith and each of us on a personal basis give him a vote of support. 2. A lot has been said about President Obama’s follower’s just being after the wealth, a sort of redistribution. Slogans like sharing opportunity with everyone are said to be cover ups to socialism, greed and corruption. Anyone can point to past abuses of power to support that feeling. Since there have been cases of abuse in the past we need to have cautious optimism. But let’s realize President Obama himself has taken nothing from us and I think we should move past the obvious wrong doings of others and give President Obama the opportunity to demonstrate to each of us personally that he has our best interest at heart. 3. Because of what we have read about President Obama it is easy to believe that he only favors his own. How can you trust President Obama if you are the bad guy? Is he partial to an exclusive group? A lot is said to give that impression but let’s not judge President Obama’s heart especially when he has promised to be for everyone regardless of race, nationality or creed. He has stated clearly that he is going to be for all people even those who do not support him. I think everyone should have some faith and give President Obama a chance to prove himself individually. Until we believe in him we can’t see past our own prejudices. What we need to do is go ahead and risk some faith and support, believing the promises that he has made to us. Instead of just relying on the media or our own opinion let's give him the chance to do something in our lives. We owe him this. That could be a sermon also. Just substitute the word 'God' for 'President Obama'. Come on give it a try, take a moment and read it again and this time just say God in place of President Obama. Step beyond your past experiences and get a bible, read the book of Matthew in the new testament; give God an opportunity to earn your vote. (this thread in no way is intended to compare or equate our President-elect with God) I approve this ad- God
I substituted the word 'Satan' and it worked even better. Give Satan a chance. I approve this ad- The Goat Lord.
Ok that was a little weird. I tried it though and there are a couple of places it didn't really work for me. But I like your spirit and effort.
Proves faith works both ways. There is alot of power in believing, so it pays to do your homework and don't let circumstances drive your belief system. And it is wise to read for yourself, so go ahead with Matthew, see if you find any truth in it. The truth makes you free and healthy.
That's what I always thought. Old Testament God smiting people all over the place for stuff like eating the wrong food on the wrong day or whatever must have made for some exciting times.
I used to think the old testament was stupid. And when anyone said something like God is love, I would point to the old testament and give them a good condescending 'give me a break' Back then being as smart as I was I didn't investigate what seemed contradictory, at the time I pretty much felt I was a better person than god anyways.
The same Old Testament God that said he was 'a father to the fatherless' sent angels to destroy Sodom. And sent Jesus to forgive my pride. There has to be more to it than killing off people like a serial killer. When I really didn't like someone I always saw the bad in them whether I understood or not, didn't matter. If any of their 'friends' wronged me it only intensified my feelings toward them. The thought behind the thread is that no matter what we once felt about someone it can be positive for us to give 'em a chance and some support.
I think I got it in July, maybe sooner... "If this was a contest over the ability to inspire, present hope and represent change I think Obama would win in a landslide. Oh, it is?" http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?p=3790818#post3790818
I wanted to post this as an example of your(rhester) comment that faith can be used both ways. I had this forwarded to me today. And no, I'm not saying this is in the bible or an example of Christianity, only that 'christians' can use rhetoric like this and bring 'christians' into believing they are doing God's work. Person who sent it is a co-worker, a friendly Republican who believes these emails 100%, despite repeatedly being shown snopes and being told otherwise. (The last bold was actually in red, but I don't know how to change color on here .)
My opinion, that email is garbage. (It's sad, I can't stand hearing the so and so is the anti-christ stuff... the words anti-christ are not mentioned one time in the book of revelations... I'm about to derail my own thread ) What I meant was faith in anything is powerful, our beliefs are tremendous motivators.
Absolute garbage. The ironic thing is that some of the worst judgment in the bible is prescribed for self-proclaimed prophets who fabricate lies and deceive God's people.
From BigBenito's quote: I watched in horror as Barack Obama made the statement with pride. . .'we are no longer a Christian nation When did this happen??? I watched the victory speech and did not hear this.
This is my favorite part. Where in the Book of Relevations is this? How does it talk about him being Muslim, given that the Muslim religion didn't even exist at the time?
idiotic. that stuff kills me. following jesus isn't a team sport. it's not us against everyone else on the planet. stop it.
Here's the YouTube link to this remark: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmC3IevZiik&feature=related Don't know the context or the time or place but it looks old (he looks skinny... if that is possible)
which brings up another thought... Jesus died on the cross for all the sins, for all the people, for all time. Jesus was not a martyr, he was a sacrifice- big difference
http://www.beliefnet.com/Video/News...Obamas-Call-To-Renewal-Keynote-Address-7.aspx Little more context to the line. He was talking about separation of church and state at the time. It was the keynote speech for the Call For Renewal conference in like 06. http://www.beliefnet.com/News/2006/...is-Historic-Speech-On-Faith-And-Politics.aspx (Sorry to derail your thread, rhester, I really didn't mean to.)
the more I see Obama haters the more I am for abortion....... which as some want to make their Messiah references to Obama, reminds me of the same people who are ragging on Obama are the same ones who said "a vote against Bush was a vote against God." THE COMPASSIONATE CONSERVATIVES HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH CHILDREN IN SWEATSHOPS AND DO NOT HELP COMPASSIONATE CONSERVATIVES WHO LIVE UNDER BRIDGES IN AMERICA. I would say according to Jesus Obama is Jesus like in his compassion compared to Hannity and Rush and Palin and every other fear mongerer.
