no, dream wasnt on the "dream team".

the 1992 olympics was the 1st time that the u.s.a. used pro athletes rather than college and amatuer players. we always tried to avoid using pros, but other countries were using theirs, so it was only fair...well not really. :)

michael jordan, larry bird and magic johnson among those that were on the team that absolutely dominated everyone.

all those greats on one team was like a dream come true, hence the name.

Olajuwon was part of the 1996 Dream Team that won the gold medal in the 96 olympics.

Well there was more to it.

The USA had to settle for the bronze after the Soviet Union beat them in 1988.

The US said "enough" and the dream team was formed.

Wasn't that on that one documentary ":03 to Gold." I think that's what it was called. Collins was the only one I can remember that was on it, but I know there were some other good ones I missed.

Didn't they cheat? Or something like that. Then the US team didn't accept their medals.

Sorry if I got some things wrong. I am also 16, only 2 during 88, so all I have is that show I watched a year ago to inform me on the whole situation.

You are thinking about the 1972 Olympics, yes, there was major controversy involving that. The final straw for the US was the poor showings by the junior teams and the eventual loss US loss that included college players David Robinson, Danny Manning, Hersey Hawkins, Dan Majerle, Mitch Richmond, JR Reid, Stacey Augmon and others...

    Check this out:

That should answer a lot of your questions regarding 1992, 1988 and the 1972 teams.

Barkley was unbelievable on the DT. He shot 71% from the field and was 7/8 from three point land.

Yeah, I thought I may have been wrong, though losing to the Soviets made me think it was what I watched. I was wondering why the video looked so old despite being in 88. 72 makes more sense. Not to mention Collins would have to have that age accelerating disease to be a college player in 88 and an old coach now...well, not LB old.

    Thanks for the link.

As far as "legends" I don't think that original dream team will ever be matched:

    Jordan
    Magic
    Bird
    Ewing
    Karl Malone
    Barkley

It happen at just the right time --- the end of Magic and Bird's careers and during Jordan's reign.
