Maybe this was already answered before but you guys know me, I am r****ded...

    In anycase...

Because Rudy T. is still under contract for TWO more years with the Rocks, are we suppose to get somekind of compensation from the Lakers if he becomes the next coach?

And why would the Rockets let Rudy T talk to the Lakers if it wouldn't benefit them in some kind of pick or player(s) or something.

I could be wrong but I think this is the sort of thing where the team says "Sure you can talk to them about being the head coach since we fired you and you still had enough loyalty to the team to stick with us"

It would be very piss-poor if they didn't allow him to talk to the Lakers without demanding compensation

This is done out of courtesy to the coach. No team holds a coach hostage unless they are the current head coach.

As for his contract, I can guarantee that when he stepped down, they negotiated in a clause that stated the contract would be voided if Rudy took another job.

    Well, that sucks...

I just thought that there would be a little something something for letting him escape the contract.

this is just sad. i thought rudy would be a rocket for life. 35 years or so with the same team doesnt happen anymore in pro sports.

can't we make him pres. of basketball operations or something?

    :(

Rudy would have been a Rocket for life, but Les decided to fire him right after he told him he wouldn't -- at a particularly shady time given his health. The time to be sad about it was last year, not now. Or rather, the decision that Rudy wouldn't be a Rocket for life was made last year, not now, and it was made by Les, not Rudy. Rudy was living in Houston last year and NEVER attended a game at the new arena. Do you really think he was a Rocket last year? The only reason he was still on staff was an awkward attempt to cover up a disloyal firing. After that the team should get compensation for 'allowing' him to coach again? Screw that. I was on the fence about whether or not it was time for a new Rockets coach last year and I'm happy with JVG, but the way they treated a lifelong Rocket last year was despicable. If he wants to coach the Lakers, I'm happy as hell for him. If Malone's still there, I don't know how I'll feel about it. If he's not, the Lakers are my second favorite team with Rudy and the Magic would be my third if the trade goes down. The way I see it, it's just more teams to root for.

In one of the articles from LA Times, it mentioned that Rudy T. asked for more duties from the Rockets management last season. I don't know if that means anything, but it did show that he was actually working for the organization, not just rest at home as some here suggested.
