Isn't the last paragraph almost the exact same thing CD has said on the radio? Makes you wonder.

I'm going to go out on a limb...

Maybe they talked to each other...

I know...I know...it's a stretch but it could happen. Stay with me. I heard that they work together. Shhh.. You didn't hear that from me.

No. That's win/win lip service. If they convince us that Lue is worthy of being a starter then in a worst case type scenario he is our starter on opening day hopefully we won't be so disappointed. But if they do happen to acquire a better point guard between now and then we'll be like "HOORAY! WE HAVE TWO POINT GUARDS GOOD ENOUGH TO START ALONG WITH YAO AND MCGRADY! HAND US THE CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY NOW!".

They can't lose saying stuff like that.

Obviously they want the fans to be happy, but I think in this case the quotes about Lue are also part of negotiations with the agents for guys like Damon Jones and Mike James. They (agents) know that the Rockets don't have a starting caliber PG on the roster right now, and the agents probably think that they can get their players a huge payday from the Rockets because they're desperate. The same thing could also be said if the Rockets are still trying to deal for Antonio Daniels - Seattle might think we'll cave and give a bigger pick because we need a PG so badly.

It's never good to be perceived as desperate, because that's when these agents think they can get a steal for well above market value. If the Rockets can spin the situation to where it appears they can live without these players, the market may lower to where someone will sign for the 2-3 year contract that CD was talking about.

It's all posturing. The Rockets know they have to bring in another point guard; it just may take a little more time before players like James and Jones realize the Rockets won't give them the kind of contracts that Turkoglu and Cardinal got.

Good point The Cat. I never thought of that, but you are probably right.

A quality backup for Yao Ming, IMO, is the most important vacancy the Rockets must fill. We have point guards. We may not be totally satisfied with them, but we have them. We do not have a backup center on the roster. That's the gaping hole I hope the Rockets management concentrates upon.
