How about this guy? I love the poise and toughness he plays with and has shown this during tough times down the stretch before (Jazz games come to mind). He reminds me a bit of Sura without the 3 point shot, but he compensates with taking it hard to the rack and making smart decisions. I particularly liked those plays where he got to the line by pumpfaking and drawing those fouls a la T-Mac. Making something out of nothing plays are huge in the playoffs. Right now, I would definitely like to see him get the bulk of the minutes and want to see him finish games during the playoffs. Although, Brooks matches up pretty well against Portland. Just thought Kyle deserved some props, as he was the bright spot for the Rockets besides Yao.
Excellent point. I was cringing at Brooks tonight... he had an off night to say the least. But Lowry was looking brilliant. He is definitely not afraid to take it to the rack or pass it in traffic. He may be the best trade acquisition we've seen in Houston in many years. Very good feeling about him... and Brooks, as a tandem. But all my reservations about our 1, 2 punch at PG are pretty much answered. AB can be the fast one, KL can be the bruiser. It is a luxury to have found this out, albeit in a tough collapse of a loss.
One thing I like that he does consistently is always go for the last shot from over half court at the end of quarter. Many players don't do that to pad stats, but it seems like he shows no hesitation in at least attempting it.
He needs to start over Brooks. My confidence jsut watching the game rises when he is on the floor. imagine how much better the team feels with lowry handling the point.
Brooks will only be effective in nights where he is shooting a high rate. In days where Brooks starts off poorly, Lowry should be given the chance to basically play the majority of the remaining minutes. MikeHunt
I've seen enough. Brooks is not starter material; he's clueless out there when it comes to running a team. He's got too much of a 2-guard mentality in him. Great for a back-up point, but never for a starter. Lowry, on the other hand, carries the team like a veteran. He's smart, calm, and we're a better team with him. If Adelman would, Lowry should definately start.
Lowry is PLAYOFF smart. He has an uncanny ability to take advantage of every misstep by the defense. From his solid court vision in the half court to his savvy jab-steps in fast breaks, he seems to really be more playoff-ready than Brooks. Aaron is a SHOOT-FIRST point guard. He should really be coming off of the bench with Von and Carl. This would give both lineups a solid trio of scorers.
Brooks is a great player every 4th game or so. The rest of the time he is a liability. I expect Lowry to average close to 30 mpg in the playoffs and more than that by next season. This team still needs a PG and Brooks isn't the answer as a starter or off the bench. Not yet at least.
Lowrey's biggest asset on the court is his IQ. He never gets flustered and he's extremely poised under pressure for a player that didn't get much PT and has not too much experience under his belt. It's been said before but it must be said again.... if he improves his jumper this summer he's going to be starting and earning big bucks in no time.
i was telling my roommate tonight that i believed we didn't get Lowry for brooks to be our guard, but rather Lowry was who we were really after, he's so much better than brooks imo, brooks has to develop alot more, lowry has it, all he needs to do is work on his outside shot, but even without it, he is a great pg for the rockets
He is extremely smart and makes the right plays down the stretch. Why can't we have 5 kyle lowry's play at once. We'll be called the lowrets
I like Lowry's composure. I can think of at least twice in last night's game where the crowd was into it and Dallas could do no wrong, and Lowry doesn't get happy feet like we've seen at the 1-spot in the past. He drives the lane and can usually draw contact. I still don't like our 1-spot in the lineup. I REALLY like Brooks personally and he can be a decent change of pace at the point guard spot, but he's such a defensive liability I would have no problem using him as trade bait if we can use it towards getting something we need. He seems to have some value, anyways.
Aggressive PG play will make or break this team in the playoffs....the only issue I had with Lowry was him defering to Ron. NEVER give Ron the ball at the end of quarters or at the top of the key to initiiate the offense...NEVER. DD
I agree. Lowry didn't get rattled, didn't get scared. Wish I could say that for the veterans. Lowry put his hardhat on and drove to the basket and went to the line. It was nice to see a guy do his job. If Brooks isn't shooting well, he's completely worthless. He does nothing well other than scoring, and he has a lot of dud games. He's too small and too streaky to be a starter. After his brilliant game against Phoenix, I thought he might have upped his game, but when the adrenaline wore off he wasn't much to scream about.
I like Lowry's balanced game. There were moments when he carried the team with his offense by taking it to the hole and guarded Terry really well. I think he'll play more minutes in PO than Brooks. AB is really a midget shooting guard not a PG.
Lowry looked great, however, I'm concerned that the Ref's will not give him those calls in the playoffs. Also, concerned with Artest shooting. His arm is limp with no flick of the wrist.
The stars have aligned and DD and I agree. Kyle let's Ron have the ball way too often when they are on the court together. It stagnates the offense and has me yelling at my tv for him to keep his job as the point guard and set up the plays
